The mechanical behavior, deformation and damage mechanisms of long period stacking ordered (LPSO) phase strengthened Mg alloys under high strain rate were first reported in this work. The as-cast Mg-9RY (RY: Y-rich misch metal)-42n alloy exhibits positive strain rate sensitive behavior and sliding deformation mechanism. LPSO phase plays an important role in hindering micro-crack propagation during damage evolution. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
