Summary: The phase equilibria in the YbCl2-MCl (M = Li, Na) binary systems were investigated using differential scanning calorimetry technique. The YbCl2-LiCl system exhibited a eutectic and a stoichiometric compound LiYb2Cl5. The YbCl2-NaCl system exhibited a eutectic as well. Solid solutions were found in both systems. The mixing enthalpies of liquid YbCl2-MCl (M = Na, K) mixtures were measured and found to be negative values.

Summary: In recent years, the chlorination leaching separation process in the field of hydrometallurgy has seen significant development, but the chlorination separation process in the field of pyrometallurgy lags behind. This paper investigates the thermodynamics of vacuum chlorination volatilization of valuable metals from spent lithium-ion batteries, showing that chlorination helps achieve the trapping and separation of singlet metals. The paper also provides a theoretical map of the stable regions of valuable metal chlorides and determines the order of separation of each chloride at a specific pressure, as well as discussing the behavior of excess CuCl2 in the system at different temperatures.

Summary: The molar enthalpies of mixing in liquid potassium chloride-uranium(III) chloride mixtures were measured at 1113 K, showing negative enthalpies with a minimum value of about -17.5 kJ/mol. The existence of complexes in the liquid mixtures was discussed based on the obtained results, re-examining the KCl-UCl3 phase diagram with the inclusion of K3UCl6 compound.

Summary: The solid-liquid equilibria of three binary systems involving paracetamol (PAR) were investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). It was found that all three systems exhibited eutectic behavior, with eutectic temperatures of 386.1 K, 355.6 K, and 348.1 K for PAR-PEP.HCl, PAR-TMD.HCl, and PAR-IBU, respectively.

Summary: This study reviewed and corrected phase diagrams of thymol-ibuprofen and l-menthol-ibuprofen systems using thermal analysis and thermodynamic approach. It was found that both systems exhibit a eutectic behavior with complete immiscibility in the solid state. The conflicting result in the l-menthol-ibuprofen system could be attributed to the samples being already melted before cooling.

Summary: The solid-liquid phase equilibria of the ternary systems (Li2SO4 + Li2CO3 + H2O) and (LiCl + Li2CO3 + H2O) were investigated through experimental methods. The results showed that Li2CO3 has a large crystallization region in both systems, indicating an easy separation from the brines.

Summary: New triple molybdates M5CrHf(MoO4)6 (M = K, Tl) and TlCrHf0.5(MoO4)3 were discovered in the ternary molybdate systems M2MoO4-Cr2(MoO4)3-Hf(MoO4)2 (M = K, Tl) in the subsolidus region. The crystal structures were refined and their thermal stability and electrical conductivity were investigated, showing high values for the former and relatively low values for the latter.

Summary: The infrared thermography method for estimating phase diagrams is being challenged in terms of its potential, given its simplicity, speed, and relatively low cost. A test campaign is underway to evaluate the impact of experimental parameters on the method's efficiency, focusing on acquisition frequency and heating rate. The study has assessed the accuracy of estimated phase diagrams for three binary systems and identified optimized parameters for further improving the method.

Summary: The liquid phase formation temperatures of the quinary system W-C-Co-Fe-Ni with a ratio of Fe:Co:Ni = 40:20:40 were determined using DSC analysis with an accurately defined experimental C-window of this system with binder content of 14.3 +/- 2 wt%. Thermodynamic modelling was carried out using the CALPHAD approach and temperature-composition sections of the system with different binder contents were calculated to verify the rationality of the modelling. A good correlation between experimental and calculated results was observed, indicating that the experimental data can be well reproduced by the present modelling.

Summary: The resurgence of molten salt nuclear reactors creates interesting problems in molten salt chemistry, where the composition and properties of salts change due to fission and corrosion. A study on atomic structure of molten NaCl-CrCl3 found networks of CrCl63- octahedra and an intermediate-range order with a non-monotonic temperature behavior, in agreement with ab initio simulations. The corrosion results in minute quantities of dissolved Cr, leading to potential changes in molten-salt properties.

Summary: Integrating froth flotation and nickel-slag cleaning process for metal recovery from spent batteries was studied using anodic graphite as the main reductant. The composition of metal alloy/matte needs to be adjusted depending on further steps for metal recovery, as increasing concentrations of graphite can affect the Fe concentration in both metal alloy and matte. The distribution coefficients of cobalt and nickel between the metallic or sulfidic phase and the coexisting slag increased with the increasing amount of spent batteries in the starting mixture.

Summary: In this study, a froth flotation process was used to treat industrial lithium-ion battery waste, achieving selective separation of electrode particles and metallic-rich fractions. The recovery rates of cathode active elements and graphite were approximately 80% and 98.8% respectively. The recovered metals were then used in high-temperature Cu-slag reduction process. The study also investigated the behavior of valuable and hazardous metals as well as the influence of Cu-slag-to-spent battery ratio.
