The phase equilibria in the DyCl3-LiCl binary system were established on the basis of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurements. One compound, namely Li3DyCl6, is formed in this system. It melts congruently at 768 K with enthalpy of 51.6 kJ mol(-1). DSC curves for eutectic composition and for compositions close to eutectic (on the left and right side of eutectic) are identical. Small effect related to the liquidus is shadowed by a big effect related to eutectic, and only one thermal effect is visible. This is the reason that eutectic composition can not be determined directly. The only possibility to determine it precisely is a creation of Tammann diagram. Two eutectics, namely LiCl-Li3DyCl6 and Li3DyCl6-DyCl3, located at DyCl3 mol fractions x = 0.206 (T = 746 K) and x = 0.542 (T = 674 K) were found from Tammann's plots, which predict, through application of the lever rule, the variation of the enthalpy associated with eutectic melting as a function of composition.

Summary: Integrating froth flotation and nickel-slag cleaning process for metal recovery from spent batteries was studied using anodic graphite as the main reductant. The composition of metal alloy/matte needs to be adjusted depending on further steps for metal recovery, as increasing concentrations of graphite can affect the Fe concentration in both metal alloy and matte. The distribution coefficients of cobalt and nickel between the metallic or sulfidic phase and the coexisting slag increased with the increasing amount of spent batteries in the starting mixture.

Summary: In this study, a froth flotation process was used to treat industrial lithium-ion battery waste, achieving selective separation of electrode particles and metallic-rich fractions. The recovery rates of cathode active elements and graphite were approximately 80% and 98.8% respectively. The recovered metals were then used in high-temperature Cu-slag reduction process. The study also investigated the behavior of valuable and hazardous metals as well as the influence of Cu-slag-to-spent battery ratio.

Summary: A simplified method for leaching rare earth elements from NdFeB magnets was investigated, allowing selective leaching of NdFeB while leaving nickel in a solid state. The use of hydrochloric and sulfuric acids as leaching agents can increase the concentration of rare earth ions in the obtained solutions.
