The findings of this meta-review provide helpful insights on important aspects of interventions starting in the NICU and continuing at home. When developing NICU-to-home interventions, researchers and clinicians should focus on engaging parents and supporting motor development and parent-infant interaction. Future research should prioritize the development and implementation of high-quality randomized controlled trials, evaluating collaborative parent-therapist interventions that incorporate these key principles to determine effectiveness on both infants and parents. Individual systematic reviews should assess interventions on subgroups with a higher risk of preterm birth, including Black families and those from low socioeconomic backgrounds.
The findings of this meta-review offer helpful insights toward important aspects of in-terventions that commence in the NICU and continue at home. When developing NICU-to-home interventions, investigators and clinicians should use key principles of engaging parents with their infants to support motor development and parent -infant interaction for a positive impact. Future research should focus on the develop-ment and implementation of high-quality RCTs with larger sample sizes evaluating collaborative parent-therapist interventions that integrate these key principles and to determine effectiveness on both infants and their parents. Individual SRs should evaluate interventions on subgroups with a higher risk of preterm birth including Black families and those representing low socioeconomic status.
