Summary: This paper examines the influence of B2O3 on the structure, properties, and antibacterial abilities of sol-gel-derived TiO2/TeO2/B2O3 powders. The presence of B2O3 affects the decomposition of Ti butoxide, resulting in the formation of composite materials containing amorphous and crystalline phases. The presence of B2O3 also leads to a red shift in UV-Vis spectra and changes in antibacterial activity.

Summary: Recent developments in fluorescence spectroscopy allow for the measurement of absorption and dispersed fluorescence spectra of isolated molecular ions at low temperatures. Lower temperatures provide narrower spectra and better information on vibronic features. Experiments were conducted on oxazine dyes cooled to around 100 K, and the results showed small Stokes shifts and broader spectra for the darrow-red cations compared to other ionic dyes.

Summary: This paper investigates the effects of fumed silica modification and calcination temperature on the physicochemical properties and activity of photocatalysts under UV-VIS and VIS light. The materials were synthesized using titanium tetraisopropoxide hydrolysis and subsequent calcination. Various analytical techniques were used to characterize the nanomaterials. It was found that SiO2 modification inhibited phase transformation and crystal growth during calcination. The photocatalytic activity was enhanced by SiO2 addition and calcination, with the highest activity observed for the SiO2(11.1%)/TiO2_600 photocatalyst.

Summary: La doped lead titanate ceramic compositions, Pb1-xLaxTiO3 (PLT), were synthesized using an acrylic acid modified sol-gel route. The microstructure, surface morphology, and optical properties of the resulting compositions were characterized using TGA, X-ray diffraction, Raman Spectroscopy, and UV-Vis spectroscopy. The addition of La resulted in a reduction in tetragonality ratio, shift of soft modes in Raman spectra, and decrease in average grain size. The PLT compositions also showed a slight increase in the band gap with increasing La content.

Summary: Zn-doped TiO2 thin films with different weight percentages (0, 3, 7% wt.) were synthesized using the Sol-Gel method and deposited on glass substrates by the spin-coating process, followed by heat treatment at 500 ? for 90 min. The films were characterized using XRD, SEM, UV-vis transmittance spectroscopy, and m-lines spectroscopy. The results showed that increasing the zinc concentration inhibited crystal growth and led to significant microstructure changes in the TiO2 films. The films exhibited high transmittance and an optical band gap of approximately 3.6-3.51 eV. M-lines spectroscopy confirmed that the Zn: TiO2 planar waveguides supported single confined guided modes for both TE and TM polarizations. MLS measurements demonstrated that zinc doping increased the refractive index of the TiO2 thin films and enhanced their waveguiding properties, while reducing the birefringence with increasing concentrations up to 7 wt%.

Summary: In this paper, the synthesis and characterization of pure and TM (Mn, Cr) doped BiFeO3 nanoparticles using the sol-gel technique were reported. The nanoparticle structure presented a rhombohedral distorted perovskite structure with R3c space group, along with a minor phase of Bi2Fe4O9. TM doping resulted in a decrease in lattice parameters and particle size. The bandgap was found to decrease with TM doping, while the dielectric constant and ac conductivity increased.

Summary: The discussion on the structure, reactivity, and nonlinear optical (NLO) response of new metabolites obtained by biotransformation of chalcones using Aspergillus flavus was performed for the first time. The study showed that metabolic reactions have a significant impact on the electronic structure of chromophores, but the inclusion of electron donor groups can enhance the NLO response of the metabolites.

Summary: The effect of weathering exposure on the optical absorption characteristics of LDPE grad-LA071 has been investigated. It has been found that the optical absorption of LDPE grad-LA071 decreases exponentially with wavelength in different durations of time. In addition, the optical absorption increases significantly with exposure time, especially at high frequencies, suggesting that LDPE grad-LA071 is a practical candidate for a selective filter for UV light. Therefore, it can be used as a UV light mask in semiconductor devices and as a protective shield for solar cells. Furthermore, the LDPE grad-LA071 film can be used in packaging to extend the lifespan of various items.

Summary: Spiropyran compounds are important photochromic molecules used as detectors and fluorescence probes in various fields. A spiropyran derivative with a hydroxyl group was used in this study to recognize different types of amines based on their UV-Vis absorption spectra. Chemical reactions between primary amines and SPOH, as well as alkalinity, were identified as vital interaction mechanisms for the recognition process.
