The study focuses on the release of Benzene Series, harmful VOCs released by MDF and NC-lacquered MDF. Different diluents were used in NC lacquer to analyze the release of Benzene Series. The results show that MDF released 14 kinds of Benzene Series, while NC-lacquered MDF released 18 kinds of it. The concentration of Benzene Series released by MDF is higher than that released by NC-lacquered MDF. Thickness has no effect on the type of release. Alcohol and ester thinner can control the release of Benzene Series, and the optimal mixing ratio is 1:3.
Because the surface of MDF is not aesthetically pleasing, it usually needs to be veneered and then painted, but such a board releases harmful VOCs, among which Benzene Series is the most harmful. Benzene and its series are a group of carcinogenic compounds. With the diluents of nitrocellulose (NC)-lacquered MDF as the research objects, the release of the Benzene Series was studied to provide a scientific basis for pollution control and a reference for eco-friendly paint production. The attenuant of NC paint, anhydrous ethanol, ethyl acetate and solvents mixed with different alcohol ester ratios were used as diluents in NC lacquer. Two kinds of wood-veneered MDF with different thickness (18 mm and 8 mm) were coated with NC lacquer and analyzed in the experiment. The gas was collected using a small environmental chamber and the Benzene Series was analyzed using GC-MS. The concentration of Benzene Series released by MDF was 316.24 mu g center dot m(-3), and that of the NC-lacquered MDF with thicknesses of 18 mm and 8 mm were 284.44 mu g center dot m(-3) and 281.06 mu g center dot m(-3), respectively. The MDF released 14 kinds of Benzene Series, and the NC-lacquered MDF with two thicknesses released 18 kinds of it. The release concentration order of Benzene Series in NC-lacquered MDF with different diluents of the 18 mm thick panel was NC-M, NC-A, and NC-E from high to low. The lowest concentration of it occurred when the ratio of anhydrous ethanol to ethyl acetate was 1:3, and the lowest amount of components were at the ratio of 1:2. The concentration of Benzene Series released by MDF is higher than that released by the NC-lacquered MDF. Thickness has no effect on the type of release. The thicker MDF was, the higher the concentration was. The alcohol and ester thinner can control the release of Benzene Series from the source, and the optimal mixing ratio was 1:3.

Forming dependence on spin roller paths for thin-walled complex components from 2195 Al-Li alloy TWBs

Hongrui Zhang, Mei Zhan, Zebang Zheng, Rui Li, Fei Ma, Xiaolei Cui, Shuwan Chen, Yudong Lei

Summary: Spin forming is used to manufacture large-diameter thin-walled complex curved surface components using tailor-welded blanks produced from small alloy plates. This study investigated three spin forming schemes and found that the rolling of the rollers during spin forming can improve wall thickness inhomogeneity and surface roughness. By increasing spinning passes, the forming height, open diameter, and weld deflection angle of components increased, leading to improved unfitability and surface quality. An improved spin forming scheme was proposed, resulting in significantly increased forming height, decreased unfitability, improved surface quality, and ideal spun components.

Manufacture of Thin-Walled Axisymmetric Components by Friction Stir Welding and Spinning of Al-Li Alloy

Hongrui Zhang, Mei Zhan, Zebang Zheng, Rui Li, Wei Lyu, Xiaolei Cui, Shuwan Chen, Shijun Shen

Summary: The novel hybrid manufacturing technique of friction stir welding and spinning offers a promising approach for forming large-diameter thin-walled axisymmetric components while minimizing process scrap. The welding seam movement during spinning restricts plastic deformation, but results in increased microhardness and strength in the components. This technique provides a potential route for sustainability in the recycling and remanufacturing of aluminum alloys.

Plastic wrinkling of thin-walled tubes under axial compression in non-uniform temperature field

Xiao-Lei Cui, Ju Guo, Shi-Yu Wen, Xiu-Min Wu, Peng Lin

Summary: The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the wrinkling behavior of thin-walled tubes under axial compression in a non-uniform temperature field created by induction heating. The study combines experiments and simulations to analyze the distribution of the temperature field and the wrinkling behavior of the tubes. The results reveal that axisymmetric wrinkles can form under axial compression in the non-uniform temperature field, with the width decreasing and the height increasing as the axial compression increases.

Dimensional Accuracy Enhancement in Hydroforming of Tubular Components with Rectangular Cross-Sections

Xiao-Lei Cui, Yang Yan, Jiuqiang He, Cong Han

Summary: This article proposes a method to regulate the deformation and dimensional accuracy of tubular components by controlling the forming pressure during hydroforming process. The study found that the clamping force and internal pressure can cause expansion and flattening of the die cavity, thus affecting the cross-sectional dimensions of the rectangular tubes. Further experiments showed that under appropriate forming pressure, the expansion deformation of the die cavity can compensate for springback, resulting in more accurate dimensions of the tubular components.
