This study investigates the effects of adding Al2O3 nanoparticles to biodiesel fuel on the vibration and noise of a direct injection diesel engine. The results show that the addition of Al2O3 nanoparticles can reduce the vibration and noise of the engine. The reduction in vibration and noise is more significant when a dispersant is added.
The objective of this study is to investigate the vibration and noise of a direct injection diesel engine fueled with Al2O3 nanoparticles dispersed in Schleichera oleosa biodiesel. The proportions of Al2O3 nanoparticles were added as follows: 60 mg/l, 80 mg/l, and 100 mg/l, respectively. In addition, a dispersant (TWEEN 80) was added to the Al2O3 nanoparticles at a ratio of 1:1 and dispersed in B20. The stability of the nanoparticles was evaluated using a spectrophotometer. Also, injection pressures were varied at 200 bar, 225 bar, and 250 bar, respectively, at constant speed (1500 rpm) and engine load (100% load) to evaluate the vibration and noise of the direct injection diesel engine. B20 caused less noise and vibration than normal diesel fuel. In addition, the dispersion of base Al2O3 nanoparticles in B20 has shown significantly less vibration and noise. However, the mixture of dispersant and Al2O3 nanoparticles in B20 exposed a greater reduction in vibration and noise. The B20 + 80Al(2)O(3) + 80 DSP produced the lowest RMS velocity and RMS noise than other fuels. In contrast, an increase in FIP resulted in a progressive decrease in vibration and noise. At a FIP of 250 bar, the lowest vibration and noise levels were 0.08776 m/s and 65.535 dB (A), respectively, for B20 + 80Al(2)O(3) + 80 DSP.
