This study evaluated the current research status and trends of Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) in neurobiology field using bibliometric methods. The United States and Harvard University were found to be leading contributors, and potential future research hotspots include depression, sensorimotor network, working memory, and transcranial magnetic stimulation.
ObjectiveThis study aimed to evaluate the current research hotspots and development tendency of Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) in the field of neurobiology from a bibliometric perspective by providing visualized information to scientists and clinicians. Materials and methodsPublications related to tDCS published between 2000 and 2022 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) on May 5, 2022. Bibliometric features including the number of publications and citations, citation frequency, H-index, journal impact factors, and journal citation reports were summarized using Microsoft Office Excel. Co-authorship, citation, co-citation, and co-occurrence analyses among countries, institutions, authors, co-authors, journals, publications, references, and keywords were analyzed and visualized using CiteSpace (version 6.1.R3). ResultsA total of 4,756 publications on tDCS fulfilled the criteria we designed and then were extracted from the WOSCC. The United States (1,190 publications, 25.02%) and Harvard University (185 publications, 3.89%) were the leading contributors among all the countries and institutions, respectively. NITSCHE MA and FREGNI F, two key researchers, have made great achievements in tDCS. Brain Stimulation (306 publications) had the highest number of publications relevant to tDCS and the highest number of citations (4,042 times). In terms of potential hotspots, we observed through reference co-citation analysis timeline viewer related to tDCS that depression#0, Sensorimotor network#10, working memory#11, and Transcranial magnetic stimulation#9 might be the future research hotspots, while keywords with the strong burst and still ongoing were intensity (2018-2022), impairment (2020-2022), efficacy (2020-2022), and guideline (2020-2022). ConclusionThis was the first-ever study of peer-reviewed publications relative to tDCS using several scientometric and visual analytic methods to quantitatively and qualitatively reveal the current research status and trends in the field of tDCS. Through the bibliometric method, we gained an in-depth understanding of the current research status and development trend on tDCS. Our research and analysis results might provide some practical sources for academic scholars and clinicians.

RNA-binding motif 4 promotes angiogenesis in HCC by selectively activating VEGF-A expression

Hexu Han, Ting Lin, Zhenyu Wang, Jingjing Song, Ziyi Fang, Jing Zhang, Xiaomin You, Yanping Du, Jun Ye, Guoxiong Zhou

Summary: The study investigated the role of RNA-binding motif 4 (RBM4) in angiogenesis in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). It was found that RBM4 expression was correlated with tumor microvessel density and the expression of proangiogenic factor VEGF-A. Mechanistically, RBM4 mediated its effects through the NF-kB signaling pathway. These findings suggest that RBM4 plays a crucial role in promoting angiogenesis in HCC.

UHRF1 Deficiency Inhibits Alphaherpesvirus through Inducing RIG-I-IRF3-Mediated Interferon Production

Mengdong Wang, Jingjing Song, Chao Gao, Cuilian Yu, Chao Qin, Yue Lang, Aotian Xu, Yun Liu, Wenhai Feng, Jun Tang, Rui Zhang

Summary: The DNA methylation regulator UHRF1 is found to be a potent negative regulator of IFN-I induction during alphaherpesvirus infection. Knockdown of UHRF1 in cells increases IFN-beta-mediated gene transcription and antiviral inhibition. UHRF1 deficiency promotes IFN-I production by triggering dsRNA-sensing receptor RIG-I and activating IRF3 phosphorylation.

A near complete genome assembly of chia assists in identification of key fatty acid desaturases in developing seeds

Leiting Li, Jingjing Song, Meiling Zhang, Shahid Iqbal, Yuanyuan Li, Heng Zhang, Hui Zhang

Summary: We generated a high-quality assembly of the chia genome using PacBio's circular consensus sequencing (CCS) technology, which includes six chromosomes composed of 21 contigs with a total length of 361.7Mb. Genome annotation revealed a 53.5% repeat content and 35,850 protein-coding genes. We identified candidate fatty acid desaturases responsible for alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) biosynthesis in chia seeds using the reference genome and two transcriptome datasets. This genome assembly will serve as a valuable resource for breeding, comparative genomics, and functional genomics studies of chia.

Immunomodulation: The next target of mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes in the context of ischemic stroke

Xiao-Qian Shan, Yong-Yin Luo, Jun Chang, Jing-Jing Song, Nan Hao, Lan Zhao

Summary: There is a lack of ideal prevention and treatment measures for ischemic stroke (IS), but transplantation therapy of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) has shown promise. However, risks associated with this cell therapy exist. MSC-derived exosomes (MSC-Exos) has emerged as a potential alternative, as it avoids the risks and difficulties of cell therapy. Suppressing inflammation via modulation of the immune response is another treatment option for IS, and MSC-Exos play a role in modulating the inflammatory immune response.

Effect of transcranial direct current stimulation on postpartum depression: A study protocol for a randomized controlled trial

Weiming Sun, Xizhen Kang, Xiangli Dong, Zijian Zeng, Qing Zou, Meixiang Su, Ke Zhang, Guanxiu Liu, Guohua Yu

Summary: Postpartum depression is a complex combination of physiological, emotional, and behavioral alterations associated with postpartum chemical, social, and psychological variations. Standard depression treatments are not ideal for PPD, but transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is an emerging technology that can provide safe and non-pharmacological treatment. tDCS can relieve depression by directly stimulating the prefrontal cortex and indirectly promoting the release of neurotransmitter GABA. However, its effectiveness in treating PPD needs further study.
