Summary: This study aims to understand how clinical supervisors make decisions regarding procedural entrustment. The findings suggest that entrustment levels fluctuate in different contexts, and both static and dynamic factors influence the decision-making process. Understanding the factors that influence supervisors' decisions can inform faculty development and competency committees' work.

Summary: The authors reviewed recent research papers to establish a research and development agenda for EPAs in the coming decade. They identified 3 levels of potential research and development and categorized their recommendations into 14 discrete themes. Future studies should focus on large-scale implementation of EPAs to support CBME and evaluate their impact at various levels.

Summary: This study describes the implementation process of introducing EPAs in a CBME model by the FC and evaluates its feasibility and perceived value. The results show an increasing completion rate of EPAs, but a decreasing engagement rate. The survey indicates that most fellows and program directors recommend the full-scale implementation of the EPA framework.

Summary: An EPA-based curriculum has a significant impact on the professional identity formation of medical students. It stimulates their participation in the workplace and encourages feedback-seeking behavior, thereby fostering professional identity formation. However, trust from supervisors does not seem to be influenced by the use of EPAs.

Summary: Assessing the readiness of dental trainees to independently perform specialist-level clinical procedures is crucial for dental postgraduate programs and patient safety. Entrustable professional activities (EPAs) are a method of competency-based assessment that identify critical clinical activities within dental training programs to determine trainees' readiness for independent practice. This article describes EPAs, entrustment decisions, and the process of developing EPAs in dental curricula.

Summary: By using a modified Delphi method and a four-step consensus-building approach, we have successfully established entrustable professional activities (EPAs) regarding immediate postmortem and acute bereavement care. These EPAs include cultural and religious ritual assessment, death preparation, postmortem care, and acute bereavement care. The importance rating for this study is 7 out of 10.

Summary: This study explores the challenges faced by clinical teachers when using a prospective entrustment-supervision (ES) scale for the first time in a curriculum based on Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs). The findings indicate that some teachers struggle with correct interpretation and rating strategies of the scale, which are influenced by the target supervision level for completion of the clerkship. Additionally, instructions for estimating readiness for a supervision level in the future are not always clear to teachers.

Summary: This study found a close association between milestone and entrustable professional activity (EPA) assessment tools and the professional identity of emergency medicine residents. Additionally, professional identity in emergency physicians is influenced by their skills advancement and ability to learn, effectively perform tasks, and make appropriate medical decisions at the system level. The synergistic use of milestone and EPA assessment tools can be useful for supervisors and clinical educators to evaluate clinical performance during residency training.

Summary: The study investigated the relationship between internal medicine residency milestones and pulmonary and critical care medicine fellowship milestones. It found that IM trainees with higher ratings were less likely to receive low PCCM ratings during the first fellowship year. There was a significant association between specific interpersonal and communication skills subcompetencies and future lapses in PCCM fellowship.

Summary: By using the concept of EPAs, a framework of reference for Laparoscopic Surgery (LS) was created through literature review and educational retreats with subject matter experts. Ten EPAs and associated competency descriptors specific to LS were identified, which can be applied to curriculum development, clinical teaching, and assessment in any surgical program with a laparoscopic training component.

Summary: The study found that the majority of PGY5 residents are achieving appropriate levels of entrustment and clinical decision-making abilities within 6 months of graduating. However, there are still some residents who lack entrustment, indicating the need for further work to ensure all residents are reaching entrustment levels before graduation.

Summary: The study explores the practicality of EPA theory in establishing medical training and service model in China. Through qualitative and quantitative research methods, it is found that general EPAs play a role in the establishment of specialized EPAs. Additionally, higher levels of EPAs are most informative for specialized Gastroenterology EPAs. The study also reveals that the clinical disposal ability of specialist physicians is affected by the diagnosis and treatment level of primary general practitioners.
