This study investigated the effects of ultrasound exposure on seed germination and seedling growth in soybeans. The results showed that ultrasound treatment increased germination rate, root and shoot lengths, seedling dry matter, and vigor index. Additionally, ultrasound stimulation promoted antioxidant gene expression and caused changes in soybean varieties.
Ultrasound technology has been recently used to enhance and increase seed germination with no negative effect on seedling development. This study investigated the effects of ultrasound exposure for 10, 20, and 30 min on seed germination, seedling growth, and gene expression of three soybean varieties grown under glasshouse conditions. Ultrasonic treatments showed different effects on most of the studied traits compared with the untreated controls. Ultrasonic exposure increased germination percentage, root and shoot lengths, seedling dry matter, and vigor index of the three soybean varieties. Antioxidant gene expression was examined in the seedling tissues and indicated a significant stimulatory effect of ultrasonication on catalase and superoxide dismutase antioxidant gene expression. Scanning electron microscopy results showed multiple changes in soybean varieties. Seed coat rupturing appeared as pores and cracks on the waved seed coat and possibly increased seed germination. Soybean varieties revealed different abilities to germinate, grow, and develop, as well as different antioxidant gene expression in response to ultrasound treatments. In light of the results obtained, ultrasonication can be widely used to include other crops that face serious challenges in germination.

Summary: COVID-19 is a global pandemic caused by SARS-coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2). The development of new vaccines with innovative technologies has revolutionized the field of vaccinology. These vaccines use mRNA encoding the Spike SARS-CoV-2 protein or recombinant adenovirus vectors to introduce the Spike protein gene into cells, allowing for faster updates to combat new variants. However, effective control of these variants requires a rapid and widespread vaccination policy with sufficient vaccine doses.

Summary: Although current pharmacological assays have limited therapeutic value for certain disorders, regenerative medicine has shown promising data in overcoming such problems, especially in zebrafish and reptilian models. Despite a lack of comprehensive understanding, investigations into the precise mechanisms behind their regenerative capabilities could potentially save millions of lives from life-threatening events. The use of advanced technologies such as organ transplantation, tissue engineering, stem cell therapy, and artificial tissues holds great potential in the future of regenerative medicine.

Mechanistic correlation between mitochondrial permeability transition pores and mitochondrial ATP dependent potassium channels in ischemia reperfusion

Rajalaxmi Behera, Veerta Sharma, Amarjot Kaur Grewal, Amit Kumar, Bhaskar Arora, Agnieszka Najda, Ghadeer M. Albadrani, Ahmed E. Altyar, Mohamed M. Abdel-Daim, Thakur Gurjeet Singh

Summary: Mitochondrial dysfunction is a fundamental cause of ischemia reperfusion (I/R) damage, which refers to the paradoxical progression of cellular dysfunction and death when blood flow is restored to previously ischemic tissues. The opening of mitochondrial permeability transition pores (MPTP) due to increased mitochondrial permeability is a key factor in I/R injury. The interaction between MPTP and mitoKATP and their roles in I/R injury are the focus of this review.

Jamal Ragheb Qasem, Ayoob Obaid Alfalahi, Moodi Saham Alsubeie, Ali Fadaam Almehemdi, Agnieszka Synowiec

Summary: Field demonstration and pot experiments were conducted to assess the effectiveness of paraquat, oxadiazon, and oxyfluorfen herbicides on controlling selected populations of fleabane in Jordan. The results showed that the resistant population in one specific site was not affected by the recommended or higher rates of the herbicides, while other populations were effectively controlled. Genetic analysis revealed that the resistant population was genetically distinct from the others, indicating the need for novel alternative practices to control its spread.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the possibility of using marjoram and thyme essential oils to inhibit the growth of microorganisms in poultry meatballs. The results showed that the essential oils had inhibitory effects on the growth of bacteria, with the effectiveness depending on the concentration and type of oil. However, higher concentrations of essential oils resulted in decreased acceptance of the smell and taste of the meatballs. The addition of essential oils significantly reduced the total number of microorganisms in the meatballs, particularly at a concentration of 1 mg/g.
