Summary: Endometrial cancer (EC) is significantly associated with an increased incidence of atrial fibrillation (AF). Women with EC who are obese and younger are more likely to develop AF. Adiponectin (APN) levels may be associated with new-onset AF, especially when adjusted for BMI.

Summary: The study found that post-operative atrial fibrillation is associated with incident heart failure hospitalization among patients undergoing both cardiac and non-cardiac surgeries. These findings highlight the adverse prognostic impact of post-operative atrial fibrillation and suggest that it may be a marker for identifying patients with subclinical heart failure and those at elevated risk for heart failure.

Summary: Atrial fibrillation is the most common sustained arrhythmia worldwide and is strongly associated with heart failure. Two therapeutic strategies, rhythm control and rate control, are accepted as the standard of care in AF patients with heart failure. Recent important studies have investigated the optimal therapeutic strategy in HF patients.

Summary: Atrial fibrillation is the most common arrhythmia in heart failure patients and can be both the cause and consequence of clinical heart failure. Some patients may benefit from maintaining sinus rhythm with catheter ablation. There is a close relationship between atrial fibrillation, left atrial myopathy, mitral regurgitation, and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, with potential clinical benefits to catheter ablation therapy. Treatment of atrial fibrillation also requires consideration of the degree of atrial myopathy and chronicity of atrial fibrillation.

Summary: Atrial fibrillation (AF) and heart failure (HF) are closely linked, with successful treatment of one potentially benefiting the other; adherence to guidelines is crucial, with AF patients potentially benefiting from ablation and HF patients having alternative treatment options depending on their LVEF levels.

Summary: The study compared the efficacy of digital smart devices in detecting atrial fibrillation (AF) and found that digital screening technology more than doubled the detection rate of treatment-relevant AF compared to usual care. This technology has the potential for broad applicability and further studies are needed to assess if digital screening for AF leads to better treatment outcomes.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the association between the clinical course of new-onset postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) and long-term outcomes. The findings showed that a more complicated course of POAF was associated with increased long-term risk for heart failure hospitalization but not for all-cause mortality or thromboembolic complications.

Summary: This retrospective cohort claims database study explores the optimal drug choice for rate control in atrial fibrillation patients. The study finds that discharge prescriptions for digoxin alone or a combination of digoxin and beta-blockers are not associated with increased risk of recurrent cardiovascular hospitalizations and death compared to prescriptions for beta-blockers alone. More research is needed to improve the precision of these estimates.

Summary: By comparing 92 biomarkers from different pathophysiological domains, the study found 24 biomarkers that were dysregulated in patients with HF and AF. Pathway overrepresentation analyses revealed that AF patients were associated with three pathways related to amyloid-beta, indicating the need for further confirmation in future studies.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of BMI and WC on cardiovascular diseases in individuals aged 40 and 66 years. The results showed that there were different associations between BMI/WC and CVDs in different age groups, indicating effect modification by age. Weight loss intervention should be individualized according to age, and maintaining muscle mass may be crucial for managing weight loss in older population.

Summary: This study examined the association between bone mineral density (BMD) and Parkinson's disease (PD) in postmenopausal women. It found that lower BMD and osteoporosis were associated with an increased risk of PD, and this association could be mitigated using antiosteoporosis medications. Summary: This study investigated the association between dental diseases, oral hygiene care, and the incidence of heart failure (HF) in patients with type 2 diabetes. The results showed that an increased number of missing teeth was associated with a higher risk of HF, while regular dental cleaning and frequent toothbrushing were associated with a decreased risk of HF. The presence of dental diseases increased the risk of HF, but good oral hygiene care further reduced the risk of HF.

Summary: The global prevalence of obesity is consistently increasing, leading to the emergence of many obesity-related diseases as major health problems. Body mass index (BMI) is used to define obesity and is strongly associated with body fat mass. Additionally, obesity-related morbidities increase proportionately with BMI. The Korean Society for the Study of Obesity has defined overweight as a BMI >23 kg/m2 and obesity as a BMI >25 kg/m2, based on a significant increase in obesity-related diseases. A waist circumference of >90 cm in men and >85 cm in women is defined as abdominal obesity, which is also correlated with obesity-related diseases. The updated guidelines place greater emphasis on using morbidity as the basis for diagnosing obesity and abdominal obesity. These new guidelines will assist in identifying and managing high-risk groups for obesity-related comorbidities among Korean adults.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of a marine healing program on metabolic syndrome indicators and mental health in adults with metabolic syndrome or at risk of developing it. The experimental group showed significant improvements in blood pressure, triglycerides, body weight, high-density lipoprotein, uric acid, and mental health indicators. Comparisons between the experimental and control groups showed that the experimental group had greater improvements in body weight and HDL-C. Overall, marine healing programs appear to be effective in improving metabolic syndrome indicators.

The prevalence of weight gain is 25.7% in men and 31.3% in women.
