Risk of Delayed Bleeding after Cold Snare Polypectomy in Patients with Antithrombotic Therapy

Masato Aizawa, Kenichi Utano, Daiki Nemoto, Noriyuki Isohata, Shungo Endo, Noriko Tanaka, David G. Hewett, Kazutomo Togashi

Summary: Delayed bleeding after cold snare polypectomy was rare even in patients with antithrombotic therapy, and no major delayed bleeding occurred. Larger polyp size, use of clips, and antithrombotic therapy were significant risk factors for delayed bleeding.

Benefits and challenges in implementation of artificial intelligence in colonoscopy: World Endoscopy Organization position statement

Yuichi Mori, James E. East, Cesare Hassan, Natalie Halvorsen, Tyler M. Berzin, Michael Byrne, Daniel von Renteln, David G. Hewett, Alessandro Repici, Mohan Ramchandani, Maryam Al Khatry, Shin-ei Kudo, Pu Wang, Honggang Yu, Yutaka Saito, Masashi Misawa, Sravanthi Parasa, Carolina Ogawa Matsubayashi, Haruhiko Ogata, Hisao Tajiri, Nonthalee Pausawasdi, Evelien Dekker, Omer F. Ahmad, Prateek Sharma, Douglas K. Rex

Summary: The number of AI tools for colonoscopy is increasing, but their implementation is facing challenges due to lack of clinical evidence and cost-effectiveness, lack of guidelines, uncertain indications, and implementation costs. The World Endoscopy Organization (WEO) has provided its position statement to address these issues and guide practitioners. The statement includes recommendations for the use of computer-aided detection (CADe) and computer-aided diagnosis (CADx), and emphasizes the need for cost-effectiveness research to understand the benefits of AI implementation.

Piecemeal cold snare polypectomy versus conventional endoscopic mucosal resection for large sessile serrated lesions: a retrospective comparison across two successive periods

W. Arnout van Hattem, Neal Shahidi, Sergei Vosko, Imogen Hartley, Kaushali Britto, Mayenaaz Sidhu, Iddo Bar-Yishay, Scott Schoeman, David James Tate, Karen Byth, David G. Hewett, Maria Pellise, Luke F. Hourigan, Alan Moss, Nicholas Tutticci, Michael J. Bourke

Summary: A study in Australia compared the effectiveness of p-CSP and traditional EMR in managing large L-SSLs. The study found that p-CSP was technically as effective as EMR but significantly reduced the risk of delayed bleeding and perforation. Therefore, p-CSP should be considered the new standard of care for treating L-SSLs.

Distributed leadership in healthcare: leadership dyads and the promise of improved hospital outcomes

Lori Leach, Bradley Hastings, Gavin Schwarz, Bernadette Watson, Dave Bouckenooghe, Leonardo Seoane, David Hewett

Summary: This study explores the impact of distributed leadership in healthcare settings, particularly focusing on the vertical distribution of leadership between different layers of the healthcare leadership hierarchy. The findings suggest that creating leadership dyads can effectively overcome communication issues based on hospital hierarchy and improve healthcare outcomes. This approach of incorporating leadership dyads in leadership development practices could benefit future hospital leaders and enhance hospital performance.
