Summary: Lead-containing alkali/alkaline-earth borate and barium lead phosphate glasses were studied to investigate the optical properties of Pb2+ ions. The s-p transition of Pb2+ was found to correlate with the optical basicity of the host glass in both borates and phosphates. The emission of Pb2+ differed significantly between the two types of glasses due to the different charged sites available to accommodate Pb2+ cations.

Summary: This paper experimentally investigated the linear and third-order optical nonlinearities of a pure CuO thin film deposited on a soda-lime glass substrate. The film's structure and linear optical properties were measured using XRD, surface profilometer, and UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The Z-scan technique was used to measure the film's nonlinear optical properties under different excitation wavelengths and incident laser powers. The results showed a reduction in nonlinear absorption coefficient and nonlinear refractive index with increasing excitation wavelength, and wavelength-dependent optical limiting of the CuO thin film.
