Summary: This study identified an association between fatty liver and elevated intraocular pressure (EIOP), finding that fatty liver is independently associated with EIOP. Fatty liver primarily affects EIOP through a direct effect on intraocular pressure. Evaluation of EIOP should be considered in patients with fatty liver.

Summary: This study examined the prevalence, risk factors, and treatment outcomes of OHT/glaucoma in Chinese patients with VKH. Risk factors included poorer visual acuity, longer intervals between uveitis attacks and referral, more recurrent episodes, and posterior synechiae. Medical treatment and surgical interventions were effective in achieving normalized intraocular pressure in affected eyes.

Summary: This study investigated the clinical factors associated with elevated TNF-alpha and its level in the aqueous humor of patients with open-angle glaucoma (OAG). It was found that a positive TNF-alpha level was associated with greater IOP fluctuation and higher systolic blood pressure in OAG patients. In NTG patients, a positive TNF-alpha level was associated with the presence of central scotoma.

Summary: The study aimed to determine long-term outcomes and risk factors for failure after MMC-augmented IT in Taiwanese patients. The results showed that despite satisfactory long-term success rates, most eyes still required medication for IOP control, and eyes with poor preoperative visual acuity had lower qualified success rates, while patients aged >70 years had higher complete success rates.

Summary: This study confirms an inverse dose-dependent association between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels and elevated intraocular pressure (EIOP) in a large sample of 15,338 individuals. Each unit increase in serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D is associated with a 3% decrease in the odds of having EIOP. Compared to individuals deficient in 25-hydroxyvitamin D, those with insufficiency and sufficiency have a 28% and 49% lower odds of EIOP, respectively. Therefore, clinical assessment of intraocular pressure may be helpful in the treatment and prevention of glaucoma in patients with insufficient 25-hydroxyvitamin D.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the impact of transient elevations in postoperative intraocular pressure (IOP) on the clinical outcome of Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) surgery in non-glaucoma patients. The results showed that temporary IOP elevation after DMEK may not affect functional and morphological outcomes in non-glaucoma patients, but careful monitoring and management are still necessary to avoid irreversible ocular damage.

Summary: This study compares the optical disc and macular vascular density values between glaucoma patients and healthy individuals using optical coherence tomography angiography. It also explores the relationship between structural and functional test results and vascular density. The results show that glaucoma patients have lower vascular density values compared to normal individuals, and there is a strong correlation between structural and functional tests and vessel density values. The study also suggests that vascular damage may be more common in patients with pseudoexfoliation glaucoma compared to primary open-angle glaucoma.

Summary: The risk of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) in the fellow eye can be evaluated by using OCT to determine the posterior hyaloid status at the time of initial RRD. In this study, 153 patients (14.6%) were diagnosed with bilateral sequential RRD. OCT imaging revealed that 7.9% of eyes with an attached hyaloid developed RRD during follow-up, and 23.7% of eyes in which a posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) developed during follow-up also developed RRD.

Summary: Retinal drusen are uncommon in IgA nephropathy, but they resemble drusen found in age-related macular degeneration. The IgA-staining deposits in the drusen are likely related to systemic deposition of IgA. The nature of cystic spaces in the drusen is still unknown. Further research on the retinas of people with glomerulonephritis is recommended.

Summary: The study investigated the phenotype, variability, and penetrance of IMPG2-related maculopathy. The results showed that mono-allelic IMPG2 variants could result in haploinsufficiency manifesting as a maculopathy with variable penetrance and expressivity. Family members of patients with IMPG2-related retinitis pigmentosa may also present with vitelliform lesions. The maculopathy is usually limited to the fovea and is associated with moderate visual impairment.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the research productivity of ophthalmology residency applicants and identify differences in productivity based on gender and race. The findings reveal that women have similar or higher research outputs compared to men, while self-identified underrepresented in medicine (URiM) students have lower research outputs in ophthalmology.
