Summary: The publication of the prevalence of unprofessional social media content among young vascular surgeons in the Journal of Vascular Surgery in August 2020 sparked a global backlash from healthcare providers and the general public due to its methodology and definitions of professionalism. While the article has been retracted, it has highlighted the need to reevaluate current definitions and philosophies surrounding professionalism in medicine and surgery that may be discriminatory and exclusive. The lack of a universally accepted definition of professionalism in the medical and surgical communities has led to a call for a tiered approach to defining professionalism that emphasizes respect and inclusivity at individual, organizational, and societal levels.

Summary: Climate change is a major challenge for society, and the energy sector, which is the largest contributor to climate disruption, needs low-carbon solutions. However, the lack of representation in the energy sector and sustainable energy research raises questions about equity, diversity, and inclusion. To address this, advice is given to researchers on creating a culture of EDI through finding like-minded individuals, creating inclusive spaces, and continuously improving.

Summary: In this study, we compute the expected response of detector arms of gravitational wave observatories to polymerized gravitational waves. We find both perturbative analytical and full nonperturbative numerical solutions to the equations of motion of the detector arms using the method of geodesic deviations. These results show the modifications to both frequency and amplitude of the signal measured by the detector, and we further analyze the detectability of these signals in LISA by studying the modes in the frequency space.

Summary: Embracing meritocracy and diversity, equity, and inclusion is crucial for the future of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery. Understanding the intersection of these two concepts is important as meritocracy can unintentionally widen the gap between individuals with access to meritocratic environments and those facing systemic barriers. However, it is possible for meritocracy and diversity, equity, and inclusion to coexist by adopting a balanced approach that promotes equal opportunities for all.
