Summary: A study has revealed the important regulatory role of conserved loop sequences in the generation of miRNAs in vertebrates, particularly in the cleavage of pre-mir-144. This regulatory role involves the ILF3 complex and reshaping of the apical loop of pre-mir-144, allowing for cleavage by Dicer. Furthermore, these findings extend our understanding of nuclear and cytoplasmic regulatory events in miRNA maturation.

Summary: The study reveals that in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), long non-coding RNA LincIN is significantly overexpressed and exerts an oncogenic role through the regulation of the NF90/miR-7/HOXB13 axis. This suggests that LincIN may serve as a potential prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target for ESCC.

Summary: Proteins with DZF modules have various important roles in gene expression, and they form heterodimerization surfaces between DZF protein pairs. ILF2, ILF3, and ZFR are three widely expressed DZF proteins in mammalian tissues, and they form mutually exclusive heterodimers. ZFR binds to intronic regions to regulate alternative splicing and preferentially binds dsRNA.

Summary: Melanoma is a major skin malignancy with unclear molecular drivers for progression and prognosis. FUT8-AS1 has been identified as a lncRNA related to melanoma prognosis, and its downregulation is associated with aggressive clinical factors. Functionally, FUT8-AS1 suppresses melanoma cell proliferation, migration, and invasion by regulating the NF90/miR-145-5p/NRAS/MAPK signaling axis, highlighting its potential as a therapeutic target for melanoma treatment.

Summary: The upregulation of RNA polymerase I (Pol I) transcription and its core machinery is found in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). The loss of miR-330-5p and miR-1270 expression contributes to the upregulation of Pol I transcription in LUAD. These miRs can suppress the expression of core components of Pol I transcription, leading to various tumor suppressive functions.

Summary: This study proposed a new method for evaluating the accuracy and efficacy of real-time navigation for anatomic liver resection using the Medical Imaging Projection System (MIPS), which continuously demonstrates the transection plane with ICG fluorescence. The results suggest that real-time navigation with MIPS may facilitate the performance of anatomic liver resection.

Summary: This study evaluated the future liver remnant (FLR) hypertrophy rate in patients undergoing portal vein embolization before left trisectionectomy, finding that PVE is effective in achieving FLR hypertrophy. The study also showed that PVE before left trisectionectomy was equally effective in patients with left portal vein stenosis or occlusion as compared to those without, with acceptable complication rates.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze the impact of an aberrant right hepatic artery on local recurrence after pancreatoduodenectomy for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. The results showed that the incidence of local recurrence was higher in the aberrant right hepatic artery group compared to the normal right hepatic artery group, and the aberrant right hepatic artery was identified as an independent risk factor for local recurrence. Combined resection of the aberrant right hepatic artery may reduce local recurrence, especially for tumors near the root of the aberrant right hepatic artery.

Summary: This prospective study investigated the changes in gut microbiota and associated intestinal environment during the early period after liver transplantation. The recipients showed dysbiosis and depletion of organic acid before transplantation, which were related to the severity of liver disease. The transplantation procedure caused minimal changes in gut microbiota and organic acid concentrations in the donors, while the recipients exhibited delayed recovery in these factors.

Summary: Non-B non-C chronic liver diseases, including alcoholic liver disease and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease/nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, have increased significantly worldwide. Liver transplantation is an effective treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma and decompensated liver cirrhosis. Efforts to unify the indications for eligibility of HCC patients for liver transplantation have been made in Japan, leading to the development of 5-5-500 criteria. The management of patients with various comorbidities during the peri-transplant period and risk assessment for liver transplantation are crucial for improving post-transplant outcomes.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed patients with intermediate and advanced-stage hepatocellular carcinoma who underwent liver resection. The results showed that although liver resection alone may not lead to remission in most patients, active salvage therapy can potentially prolong survival. Further research is warranted to decrease recurrence rates and increase salvageability for these patients.
