Jacqueline A. ter Stege, Hester S. A. Oldenburg, Leonie A. E. Woerdeman, Arjen J. Witkamp, Jacobien M. Kieffer, Martine A. van Huizum, Frederieke H. van Duijnhoven, Daniela E. E. Hahn, Miranda A. Summary: The majority of breast cancer patients considering immediate breast reconstruction after mastectomy experience clinically significant decisional conflict, especially those without clear preferences for breast reconstruction. Patients with higher levels of anxiety are also more likely to experience decisional conflict.

Trajectories of Cognitive Symptoms in Sick-Listed Cancer Survivors

Kete M. Klaver, Sanne B. Schagen, Jacobien M. Kieffer, Allard J. van der Beek, Saskia F. A. Duijts

Summary: The study examined the impact of cognitive symptoms on work capacity in cancer survivors, finding that cognitive functioning improved within two to four years after the first sick leave. Despite this improvement, cognitive symptoms remained a clinical concern for non-durable work-disabled cancer survivors. Fatigue was identified as a significant factor influencing the reported trajectory of cognitive functioning.

Assessing measurement invariance in the EORTC QLQ-C30

Janneke van Roij, Jacobien M. Kieffer, Lonneke van de Poll-Franse, Olga Husson, Natasja J. H. Raijmakers, John Gelissen

Summary: The study aimed to investigate measurement invariance in the EORTC QLQ-C30 questionnaire across different subgroups of cancer patients. Results showed the highest level of invariance across groups based on time since diagnosis and life stage, with smaller levels of invariance across groups based on sex, age, and primary tumor site. Changes in item's associated factor means were relatively small and mostly canceled each other out to some extent.

Phase III study of the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life cancer survivorship core questionnaire

Marieke van Leeuwen, Jacobien M. Kieffer, Teresa E. Young, Neil K. Aaronson, Lonneke V. Van de Poll-Franse

Summary: This study aimed to develop an EORTC QLG questionnaire to comprehensively capture the HRQOL issues relevant to disease-free cancer survivors. Through pretesting and analysis, essential and optional scales were identified, resulting in the QLQ-SURV100 with various scales and items. The availability of this questionnaire will facilitate a standardized assessment of HRQOL for cancer survivors.

Persistent symptoms of fatigue, neuropathy and role-functioning impairment among indolent non-Hodgkin lymphoma survivors: A longitudinal PROFILES registry study

Afke Ekels, Lonneke V. van de Poll-Franse, Eduardus F. M. Posthuma, Jacobien Kieffer, Djamila E. Issa, Adrianus Koster, Marten R. Nijziel, Johannes H. F. M. Pruijt, Wendy B. C. Stevens, Lidwine W. Tick, Simone Oerlemans

Summary: This large population-based longitudinal study investigates the long-term health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and persistence of symptoms among patients with indolent non-Hodgkin lymphoma (iNHL). The study found that up to a third of iNHL patients experience long-term persistent symptoms which do not improve over time. Younger age, lower education level, comorbidities, and psychological distress were associated with worse outcomes.

Summary: This international study tested the psychometric properties of a newly developed measure for CLL patients and found that it can increase sensitivity of HRQoL assessment and provide better guidance for treatment decision-making.

Summary: The study found that the chemotherapy group had significantly better physical functioning and less dysphagia after postoperative treatment in the CRITICS trial. Additionally, the baseline HRQoL scores were significantly associated with EFS and OS.

Content comparison of the EORTC CAT Core, SF-36, FACT-G, and PROMIS role and social functioning measures based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the role functioning (RF) and social functioning (SF) contents assessed by commonly used PRO measures in cancer patients. Through linking item content to the ICF framework, conceptual overlap and differences among PRO measures for the assessment of social health were identified. These findings can help in selecting the most appropriate measure for a specific setting or study purpose, and understanding the possibilities of linking scores across different PRO measures.

Brain White Matter Microstructure as a Risk Factor for Cognitive Decline After Chemotherapy for Breast Cancer

Michiel B. de Ruiter, Liesbeth Reneman, Jacobien M. Kieffer, Hester S. A. Oldenburg, Sanne B. Schagen

Summary: The study found that low fractional anisotropy (FA) values may be a risk factor for cognitive decline after chemotherapy, both in the early and late stages post-treatment. This suggests that low FA may reflect a low white matter reserve, potentially indicating a risk factor for cognitive decline following breast cancer chemotherapy.
