A eco-friendly synthesis of 1,3-diarylpropenones using phenyl acetylene and aromatic aldehydes as reactants in the presence of montmorillonite KSF as a catalyst has been successfully achieved by Favorskii reaction. The reported procedure offers easy workup, high yields, recyclability of the catalyst and cost effectiveness.
