Summary: This systematic review found no strong evidence supporting a direct relationship between non-alcoholic drinks and epilepsy/antiseizure medications. However, limited evidence suggests that certain drinks may trigger seizures. It is recommended for patients with epilepsy to avoid excessive consumption of caffeinated drinks and certain fruit juices, but moderate daily intake of coffee and tea is not harmful.

Summary: This study examined the spread of tobacco and tea in ancient populations by analyzing hair samples from frozen bodies in eastern Siberia, highlighting the influential role of economic factors and social family contacts in early tobacco consumption. The research suggests that understanding the evolution of substance integration into Siberian culture provides insights for contemporary public health approaches.

Summary: The impact of caffeinated energy drinks (CEDs) on the cardiovascular response to exercise has not been well described. A systematic review and meta-analysis of 296 healthy adult males and females in 21 randomized controlled trials reveals that the consumption of CEDs leads to a significant increase in heart rate and systolic blood pressure during exercise, while diastolic blood pressure remains similar. Insufficient data is available to evaluate the effects on rate pressure product and exercise-induced arrhythmia. These findings are particularly relevant to individuals prone to hypertension.

Summary: This study found an association between high caffeine intake during pregnancy and an increased risk of stillbirth, especially at levels exceeding the World Health Organization's recommendation of over 300 mg/day. Recommendations from midwives and internet-based resources were identified as the most effective means to influence maternal behavior.

Summary: Prenatal alcohol exposure can lead to fetal growth restriction, affect placental angiogenesis, and disrupt neurodevelopmental processes. Treatment with epigallocatechin-3-gallate can improve fetal growth restriction, mitigate alcohol-induced changes in placental angiogenic factors, and partially rescue neuronal nuclear antigen, doublecortin, and glial fibrillary acidic protein levels.

Summary: APEDs are commonly used by adolescents and young adults to enhance athletic performance, physical and mental efficiency, and sexual appearance. While users tend to be moderate overall, certain subpopulations may display pathological use associated with high-risk behaviors. The consumption of APEDs is quickly growing into a public health concern, requiring prevention and intervention projects to promote safe use and psychological aid.

Summary: This study used hair testing to investigate the prevalence of drug use during pregnancy among 300 Mexican women. The results showed that 42.3% of the hair samples tested positive for psychoactive substances, with multiple substances detected in most samples. The study also found that the use of psychoactive substances and exposure to tobacco smoke during pregnancy were significantly associated with younger age and lower education level of the mothers.

Summary: Prenatal alcohol exposure can cause cardiovascular health issues in offspring. This study investigated the effects of the compound EGCG on cardiac dysfunction in mice prenatally exposed to alcohol. The results showed that prenatal alcohol exposure led to cardiac alterations and dysfunction, but postnatal treatment with EGCG restored physiological levels of heart biomarkers and improved cardiac function. These findings suggest that postnatal EGCG treatment can attenuate the damage caused by prenatal alcohol exposure.

Summary: The demand for long-term care is expected to increase due to rising life expectancy and the prevalence of long-term illnesses. Inadequate prescriptions in nursing homes can lead to adverse drug events. This systematic review analyzes the prevalence of potentially inadequate prescriptions based on new STOPP/START criteria in nursing home residents. The review found a high prevalence of inappropriate prescriptions in nursing homes, highlighting the need for medication monitoring systems in this vulnerable population.

Summary: This study explored the complexity of newborn cry expression by collecting multimodal data and applying statistical and machine learning techniques. Acoustics and body language were identified as the most relevant features for cry type classification. A deep learning algorithm called AMSI achieved an accuracy rate of 92% in identifying cry types. These findings lay the groundwork for cry analysis research and have the potential to improve the relationship between infants and parents as well as family well-being.
