Er3+ and Yb3+ co doped GdAlO3 phosphor has been prepared by using solid state reaction method. The prepared phosphor was characterized by using different instruments for knowing its exact size and optical behaviour. Structural properties like crystal size of the prepared phosphor were characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD). Exact crystal size was calculated by using electron microscopy such as transmission electron microscopy (TEM) method. The results show that the prepared phosphors are in nanometer range. The optical behaviour of the phosphor was characterized by recording photoluminescence spectra of the prepared phosphor under 980 nm excitation. The prepared phosphor shows intense emission peak in green region and weak emission peaks at blue and red region. The paper also deals with the probable transition and the up-conversion mechanism of the prepared phosphor. (C) 2016 Elsevier B. V. All rights reserved.
