Fracture strength analysis of titanium insert-reinforced zirconia abutments according to the axial height of the titanium insert with an internal connection

Seung-rye Song, Kyeong-Mee Park, Bock-Young Jung

Summary: The axial height of the titanium insert should be designed to not be less than 3 mm to increase the fracture strength and promote the long-term stability of implants, as indicated by the study results.

Assessment of Age-Related Changes on Masticatory Function in a Population with Normal Dentition

Seonhui Kim, Re-Mee Doh, Leegang Yoo, Sol-Ah Jeong, Bock-Young Jung

Summary: Age-related physiological changes, such as decreases in the number of remaining teeth, handgrip strength, and bite force, can impact masticatory function. However, maintaining sufficient functional tooth units and posterior tooth support can help preserve masticatory performance despite age-related declines in certain factors. Improving occlusion through dental treatment is considered crucial for maintaining good masticatory function.

Mechanical properties of additively manufactured zirconia with alumina air abrasion surface treatment

Lee-Gang Yoo, Nan-Sim Pang, So-Hyun Kim, Bock-Young Jung

Summary: This study evaluated the mechanical properties of zirconia fabricated using additive manufacturing technology compared to subtractive manufacturing technology. The results showed that the additive manufacturing group had lower flexural strength values compared to the subtractive manufacturing group. However, air-abrasion surface treatment increased the flexural strength in both groups. The study also found that the surface roughness increased only in the additive manufacturing group after air-abrasion treatment.

Mechanical properties of CAD/CAM polylactic acid as a material for interim restoration

Won-Il Choi, Lee-gang Yoo, Yu-ri Kim, Bock-Young Jung

Summary: This study compares the mechanical properties of polylactic acid (PLA) with conventional dental polymers for computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM). The results show that PLA FDM has mechanical properties within the clinically acceptable range, and Bisphenol SLA is the most durable material among the tested CAD/CAM polymers.

The effect of surface treatment and low-temperature degradation on flexural strength of additive manufactured zirconia

So-Hyun Kim, Nam -Sik Oh, Nan-Sim Pang, Bock-Young Jung

Summary: This study compared the flexural strength of additive-manufactured (AM) and subtractive-manufactured (SM) zirconia and evaluated the effects of low-temperature degradation (LTD) and surface treatment on their mechanical properties. The results showed that AM zirconia had comparable strength to SM zirconia, regardless of LTD and surface treatment, indicating the potential of this technique for clinical applications.

Assessment of subjective and objective masticatory function among elderly individuals with mild cognitive impairment

Nan-Ju Lee, Hyo-Jung Kim, Yiseul Choi, Taek-Bin Kim, Bock-Young Jung

Summary: This study aimed to identify factors influencing masticatory function associated with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in elderly individuals. The results showed that dynamic masticatory performance (MAI) was significantly associated with MCI, emphasizing the importance of improving chewing function for preventing the progression of cognitive impairment.
