Summary: This paper explores the feasibility of converting oil palm biomass (OPB) into valuable commodities through concentrated solar-driven pyrolysis in Malaysia. It provides an overview of OPB production, stakeholders, and challenges in the industry. The potential benefits and techniques of OPB pyrolysis are discussed, along with Malaysia's solar potential and suitable locations. The paper recommends Tawau in Sabah as an ideal location for OPB solar pyrolysis due to its solar availability, potential OPB resources, and supportive infrastructure.

Summary: This paper presents a method to remove oil from Palm Kernel Shell (PKS) aggregates in order to improve the strength development in PKS concrete. Potassium hydroxide solutions with concentrations ranging from 2 to 20 g/L were used to induce a saponification reaction with the oil on the PKS surface. The oil can be completely removed, but highly concentrated solutions can damage the surface of the aggregates. The optimal concentration for oil removal was found to be 10 g/L, with an exposure time of 12 hours, without affecting the integrity of the aggregates and the mechanical properties of the PKS concrete. Compressive strength and splitting tensile strength of 20 MPa and 1.2 MPa, respectively, were achieved without any admixture.

Summary: Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis) has three fruit forms controlled by mutant alleles of the SHELL gene. A nondestructive seed testing approach was developed to assess contamination in Malaysia, revealing the prevalence of high-yielding and low-yielding forms. Removing undesirable palms with SHELL DNA testing could significantly increase fruit and oil production. This study proposes a new paradigm of 'screen-then-plant' cultivation to enhance food production, sustainability, and income.

Summary: The use of oil palm wastes for sustainable polymer matrix composites has gained interest in recent years. This study evaluated the water absorption behavior of acrylic thermoplastic matrix composites reinforced with oil palm empty fruit bunch (OPEFB) and oil palm kernel shell (OPKS) through immersion test. The results showed that water absorption capacity decreased at higher processing temperatures and larger particle sizes. The type of reinforcement also influenced water absorption and diffusivity. OPKS/acrylic and OPEFB/acrylic composites had a maximum absorption of 77% and 86%, with diffusivities of 7.3 x 10(-9) and 15.2 x 10(-9) m(2)/min, respectively. Experimental evidence suggested a non-Fickian absorption mechanism for the composites.

Summary: The public's acceptance of power generation utilizing recycled oil palm waste is comparable to solar power in Japan and South Korea, and surpasses other energy sources in China at a general knowledge level. However, raising public awareness about palm oil generally reduces acceptance of the utilization of recycled oil palm waste. Public support increases with multiple pieces of information rather than single pieces of information.

Summary: The conversion of palm oil into green diesel through catalytic deoxygenation is an important topic in biorefinery research. This study investigates the use of palm fiber waste as a precursor for creating activated biochar as a support material for catalysts. Nickel phosphide and iron phosphide catalysts supported on palm fiber activated biochar were synthesized and extensively characterized. The catalysts showed excellent performance in deoxygenation reactions, producing a high yield of green diesel.

Summary: Sugar is a significant commodity for Indonesia, with a need of 7 million tons, while imports were approximately 5.54 million tons in 2020. The study evaluates the potential areas for sugarcane plantation expansion in Lamongan using land suitability analysis and overlay analysis of policy maps. The highest weighted parameters for suitability were soil drainage, cation exchange capacity and base saturation, and rainfall. The total possible area for expansion in Lamongan was 32,552.37 ha, with the largest class being Possible Area 2 at 65.67%. The sub-districts with the highest possible areas were Solokuro, Ngimbang, and Mantup. The recommendation is to extend the area allocated to sugarcane plantations in Lamongan, considering other land uses.

Summary: In the field of agri-food logistics, group decision-makers face high risk and uncertainty. This study proposes a trust uncertainty model based on the principles of uncertainty theory. A new method is developed to measure the trust of experts as decision-makers and the reliability of group decision results. The results show that this new method obtains the most optimal route with a high aggregation value. The trust uncertainty modeling successfully measures the trust level of group decision-makers and demonstrates reliability. Comparisons with commonly used approaches show advantages of this new model over AHP.
