Summary: The study found lower prevalence of chronic and previous HBV and HCV among tuberculosis patients in Denmark compared to TB high endemic areas, but higher than the Danish background population. Patients from Greenland, Asia, Africa, and Eastern Europe were significantly associated with HBV seropositivity among TB patients.

Summary: This study in Iranian prisons revealed high prevalence of hepatitis B and C infections, with risk factors such as history of imprisonment, drug use, unprotected sexual contact, and tattooing contributing to transmission. Special attention to prisons, continuing HBV vaccination, and implementing screening and treatment protocols for HCV-infected individuals can help achieve the goal of eliminating hepatitis by 2030.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of hepatitis B and C viral infections among HIV patients in Bangkok, Thailand, and analyzed the associated factors. The study found that approximately 5-10% of newly diagnosed HIV patients in Bangkok had hepatitis B viral infection after 25 years of universal vaccination. Anti-HCV positivity was found in 4-5% of HIV patients who were men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women (TGW).

Summary: Hemodialysis patients are at increased risk of hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. This study found that hemodialysis patients with HCV exhibited a higher burden of comorbidities, especially in ischemic heart diseases, respiratory disorders, and mental/behavioral disorders, compared to patients with HBV and those without viral hepatitis.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the seroconversion rate of hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections among patients on maintenance hemodialysis in a tertiary care hospital in Pakistan. The results showed a statistically significant higher seroconversion rate for HCV compared to HBV. Screening should be widely conducted to control and manage these infections.

Summary: The worldwide burden of HCV infection among hemodialysis patients has been systematically examined. The study found that HCV infection is a shared burden among hemodialysis patients worldwide and is associated with a higher risk of death. Preventative measures such as avoiding unnecessary blood transfusion and dialyzer reuse should be encouraged in dialysis units to prevent HCV transmission.

Summary: The study reveals high prevalence of HBV and HCV coinfections among HIV-positive prisoners, especially among those with history of drug injection. The prevalence of these coinfections varies significantly across the globe. There is a call for enhanced screening and treatment programs targeting high-risk populations to reduce the incidence of coinfections.

Summary: This study evaluated the prevalence of HBV, HCV, and HIV infections in hemodialysis patients at Kano Kidney Center in Saudi Arabia in 2022. The results showed higher prevalence rates of HBV and HCV infections compared to the general population, but lower compared to previous studies conducted in Saudi Arabia in the early 21st century. It highlights the need for strict vaccination protocols and monitoring of antibody titers to ensure optimal protection.

Summary: Chronic viral hepatitis infections, caused by hepatitis B and C viruses, contribute to a significant number of deaths annually. Recent research suggests that B cells play a role in the immune response to chronic hepatitis B and C infections. B cell responses are altered in different stages of these infections, showing signs of activation and exhaustion. However, antibody responses to viral antigens remain impaired, possibly due to exhausted phenotype of specific B cell subsets. Single-cell technologies could provide further insights into the role of B cells in these infections.
