Summary: Early prediction of fetal growth restriction is important for treatment options and neonatal outcomes. This study assessed the association of parameters used in first-trimester screening and the development of fetal growth restriction. The findings showed that PAPP-A levels and uterine artery Doppler pulsatility index weresignificantly associated with fetal growth restriction.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the association between maternal serum kisspeptin levels and late-onset fetal growth restriction (FGR) and their contribution to adverse perinatal outcomes. A case-control study was conducted with 90 pregnant women, 45 diagnosed with FGR and 45 with healthy pregnancies. Serum levels of kisspeptin 1 were compared between the two groups. The results showed that kisspeptin1 levels were significantly higher in the FGR group compared to the control group, suggesting that it could be used as a potential biomarker for late-onset FGR.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the accuracy of universal third trimester umbilical artery (UA) Doppler in predicting adverse pregnancy outcomes. The results showed that UA Doppler has moderate predictive accuracy for small for gestational age but not for neonatal morbidity indicators in unselected and low-risk pregnancies.

Summary: Advanced maternal age affects fetal growth pattern, with lower third trimester fetal parameters compared to younger mothers. Head circumference is an important indicator for estimating the estimated date of delivery in advanced maternal age group.

Summary: The debate on third trimester ultrasound in obstetrics continues, with no consensus on its effectiveness and value. There is currently no evidence to suggest that it improves perinatal outcomes, and health policies in the US and Europe have not been updated accordingly.

Summary: The study investigated the causes of third-trimester stillbirths in Zhejiang Province, China, identifying higher proportions of certain risk factors among antepartum stillbirth cases. The antepartum stillbirth fetuses had lower birth weight and gestational age, as well as a smaller portion of translucent amniotic fluid, compared to control cases. Additionally, abnormalities detected prenatally and fetal growth restriction were more frequent in antepartum stillbirth cases.

Summary: In this study, the cerebroplacental ratio (CPR) was found to have better predictive value for predicting small for gestational age (SGA) births compared to its components, the umbilical artery (UA) pulsatility index (PI) and middle cerebral artery (MCA) PI. CPR and MCA PI were equally good at predicting neonatal morbidity, especially in SGA pregnancies, and both were significantly better predictors than UA PI.

Summary: The regular use of third-trimester ultrasound in a teaching hospital in China was found to have satisfactory antenatal detection of fetal growth restriction (FGR) among small for gestational age (SGA) infants. Antenatal ultrasound suspicion of FGR was associated with a higher incidence of iatrogenic deliveries, but did not lead to improved neonatal outcomes, except for a reduced risk of perinatal resuscitation.

Summary: This study investigated the differences in placental perfusion and diffusion between fetal growth restriction (FGR) pregnancies and normal pregnancies using Intravoxel Incoherent Motion (IVIM) MRI. The results showed that the placental perfusion fraction (f) was significantly lower in the FGR group compared to the normal group, while diffusion coefficients (D) and pseudodiffusion (D*) showed no significant differences. Additionally, there was a positive correlation between placental f and gestational age in normal pregnancies, and a negative correlation between placental D values and gestational age.

Summary: This study examined the discrepancy in umbilical artery Dopplers between paired arteries in 425 growth-restricted fetuses and found that some cases exhibited discordant pulsatility indices. The results indicated that different sampling methods may affect the detection of abnormal pulsatility indices.

Summary: This study investigates the utility of MCA PSV Doppler in determining the perinatal mortality and morbidity in cases with fetal growth restriction. The results show that MCA PSV above the 95th percentile is associated with adverse perinatal outcomes.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the implementation of low-dose acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) for the prevention of pregnancy-induced hypertension (PE) and fetal growth restriction (FGR) in a Polish population. The results showed that patients in the high-risk group were more likely to experience complications during pregnancy, including pre-eclampsia, fetal growth restriction, gestational diabetes, and cesarean section. The conclusion is that the first-trimester screening is crucial in identifying high-risk pregnancies, and ASA prophylaxis may have the most beneficial effect on these high-risk patients.

Summary: The optimal timing of delivery in cases of early onset fetal growth restriction is challenging to determine due to the opposing risks of stillbirth and prematurity. This study aimed to assess the likelihood of neonatal complications based on the time of birth, using Doppler parameters in fetuses with early onset fetal growth restriction. The findings suggest that infants delivered at the onset of umbilical arteries absent/reversed end-diastolic flow are less likely to develop intraventricular hemorrhage grades III/IV and bronchopulmonary dysplasia.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the impact of universal late third-trimester ultrasound scan on perinatal mortality, morbidity, and obstetric intervention. The results show that introducing universal ultrasound can reduce perinatal mortality and severe morbidity, although the changes are not statistically significant. Additionally, the detection of low birthweight improves when markers of growth restriction are used, but there is still room for improvement.

Summary: This study assessed whether coexisting fetal growth restriction (FGR) influences pregnancy latency and maternal and perinatal outcomes in women with preterm pre-eclampsia. The results showed that FGR is associated with shorter pregnancy latency, more emergency Cesarean deliveries, fewer successful inductions of labor, and increased rates of neonatal morbidity and mortality.
