Summary: This study evaluated the impact of performing immediate coronary angiography (CAG) after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) with stratification of predicted neurologic injury and cardiogenic shock on arrival to a center. The results showed that immediate CAG was associated with improved survival with good neurologic outcome in low-risk patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction and SCAI grade B to E shock.

Summary: Multiple studies have provided conflicting results about the association between early coronary angiography (CAG) and out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) patients. Meanwhile, the real-world patterns of CAG use among OHCA patients remain unclear.

Summary: This study demonstrates that mitochondrial transplantation can improve survival and neurological recovery in post-cardiac arrest rats. Freshly isolated functional mitochondria significantly increased the 72-hour survival rate and improved various aspects of cardiac and neurological functions. These findings provide a foundation for further research and development of mitochondrial transplantation as a novel therapeutic strategy.

Summary: The study found that prearrest chest discomfort symptoms in OHCA patients were significantly associated with significant coronary artery lesions found on postarrest coronary angiography (CAG). This suggests that prearrest symptoms can be used to better risk stratify patients following OHCA to determine who will benefit from invasive angiography.

Summary: This study analyzed the impact of each proposed unfavorable feature on survival to hospital discharge in successfully resuscitated cardiac arrest patients. Patients with 6 or more unfavorable features have a poor long-term prognosis, with <40% predicted survival if they have 3 or more unfavorable features.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the role of serum lactate in predicting in-hospital cardiac arrest in the emergency department. The study found that elevated lactate levels and poor lactate clearance were strongly associated with a higher risk of in-hospital cardiac arrest in the emergency department.

Summary: This study assessed the frequency, predictors, and clinical impact of acute coronary occlusion in hemodynamically stable and unstable out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patients without ST-segment elevation. The results showed that acute coronary occlusions were found in both stable and unstable patients and were associated with a higher risk of cardiovascular death.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of bacteremia in OHCA patients presenting to the Emergency Department and found it to be 46.5%. Among OHCA patients who survived to hospital admission, there was no significant association between bacteremia, antibiotic administration during resuscitation, and in-hospital mortality.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate whether early coronary angiography is associated with increased development of acute kidney injury (AKI) in survivors of cardiac arrest. The results showed that early angiography was not associated with a higher incidence of AKI compared to a deferred angiography strategy.

Summary: The optimal targeted temperature management strategy for patients with shockable rhythm is unclear. This study found that mild therapeutic hypothermia was not associated with improved 90-day survival compared with targeted normothermia in postarrest patients with initial shockable rhythm. Neurologic outcomes and patient-reported Mental and Physical Health Scores also did not differ between the two strategies at 90 days and 1 year.

Summary: The study found wide variation in survival between different EDs, which was associated with hospital characteristics. It suggests the need for a detailed review of ED deaths, particularly in non-cardiac arrest centres, and potentially the need for monitoring ED survival as a measure of quality.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the usefulness of the initial post-resuscitation electrocardiogram in selecting patients for early coronary angiography. The findings showed that the changes in the initial post-resuscitation electrocardiogram were not associated with acute coronary occlusion, but normal electrocardiogram findings were associated with patient survival.

Summary: This study found that gastric regurgitation (GReg) on the first day after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) can serve as an early and independent predictor for poor neurological outcome in comatose OHCA survivors. Patients with GReg are more likely to have poor neurological outcomes, and this association can predict independently.

Summary: This retrospective cohort study investigated the long-term outcomes of patients over 60 years old who underwent hemiarthroplasty for unstable trochanteric fractures. The study found that with time, the mortality, readmission, and reoperation rates increased gradually. Risk factors for overall mortality included male gender, older age, higher Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI), and lower insured amount, while older age and higher CCI were risk factors for readmission. Older age was a protective factor for reoperation, likely due to competing death.

Summary: Visits to the Emergency Department by older people have been increasing in recent decades, particularly for those with frailties, leading to higher revisiting and admission rates after discharge. This study found that implementing Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment and a structured follow-up program can significantly reduce readmission and mortality rates among older ED patients.
