Summary: The population of stray dogs is increasing worldwide, causing ecological, social-economic, and ethical problems. This study aims to understand the behavior and food preferences of stray dogs in heavily populated areas. The study reveals that stray dogs thrive in areas with shelter and food and exhibit predatory behavior similar to wild species. The analysis also highlights their opportunistic feeding behavior and preference for meat. Regional analysis like this can help identify solutions to minimize the negative impacts of stray dogs on society and the environment.

Summary: This study establishes a record of the seroprevalence and molecular epidemiology of T. gondii and N. caninum infection in stray cats and dogs in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau Area. The results demonstrate the presence of both parasites in the tested animals and highlight the importance of stray cats and dogs in the transmission and prevalence of these infections.

Summary: This study aimed to determine if a rehabilitation and training program could help unsocialised stray dogs develop the skills needed for successful adoption. The results showed that with appropriate training, some unsocialised stray dogs improved their sociability towards humans, indicating the potential for them to become adoptable dogs. However, there was significant individual variation within the group.

Summary: The report describes a case of coexistence of Dioctophyme renale and Dirofilaria sp. in the subcutaneous tissue of a cat in Brazil. The cat showed physical enlargement in the left inguinal region, and surgical excision revealed the presence of the parasitic nematodes. This represents an unprecedented association of these parasites in a feline host.

Summary: This study investigated the Rickettsia infection in ticks collected from stray dogs in southeast Iran. The results showed a 4% Rickettsia infection rate in the ticks collected from 50 stray dogs. This provides important molecular evidence for human and animal healthcare systems in southeast Iran.

Summary: This study assessed the readiness of Aradan County in Iran to collect stray dogs using the Community Readiness Model. The findings indicate that the community readiness in both Aradan County and Aradan City is generally at the preplanning stage, with rural areas lacking clear public awareness. To improve the process of collecting stray dogs, it is essential to conduct educational sessions to increase public participation and provide necessary financial resources for responsible organizations.

Summary: This study investigated the differences in immune system gene expression between owned dogs and stray dogs, and found that while the expression levels of perforin and granzyme A genes were higher in stray dogs, the differences were not statistically significant. However, a significant difference was observed in the expression level of the granzyme B gene, suggesting that the immune system of stray dogs may be more prepared for diseases.

Summary: An increase in the number of free-roaming dogs in Iranian cities has led to a variety of problems. This paper examines the reasons, challenges, and activities related to controlling these dogs based on online news articles. It establishes a scientific link between increased urbanization and its implications for dogs and humans. The findings of this study can be applied to other developing countries facing a rise in rabies cases.

Summary: In Australia, most cats and dogs entering animal shelters and pounds are strays, often from low-income areas, and many of them are euthanized. The aim of modern sheltering practices is to reduce the number of stray animals. A survey was conducted among Australian pet owners to understand their attitudes towards pet confinement. The results showed that dog owners were more supportive of confining dogs to the owners' property, while cat owners were more supportive of confining cats inside the house at night. The findings provide valuable information for developing strategies to reduce stray animals.

Summary: Venezuela is currently experiencing a humanitarian crisis characterized by food insecurity, high rates of malnutrition, poverty-related health issues such as intestinal parasitoses and anemia, and low deworming coverage. Despite modest independent and private epidemiological studies showing high prevalence rates of parasitic infections, public authorities have failed to adequately address the situation.
