Recessive Mutations in ACP4 Cause Amelogenesis Imperfecta

Y. J. Kim, Y. Lee, Y. Kasimoglu, F. Seymen, J. P. Simmer, J. C-C Hu, E-S Cho, J-W Kim

Summary: Amelogenesis imperfecta (AI) is a genetic disorder affecting the formation and mineralization of tooth enamel, with several genes involved including ACP4. Study of two families with hypoplastic AI revealed biallelic mutations in ACP4, resulting in decreased protein expression, homodimer formation, and acid phosphatase activity in the mutants. This expands the mutational spectrum of ACP4 and enhances understanding of its function in normal and pathological amelogenesis.

Cytotoxicity of NeoMTA Plus, ProRoot MTA and Biodentine on human dental pulp stem cells

Sinem Birant, Muazzez Gokalp, Yazgul Duran, Mine Koruyucu, Tunc Akkoc, Figen Seymen

Summary: This study evaluated the biocompatibility and cytotoxic effects of NeoMTA Plus, ProRootMTA, and Biodentine on human dental pulp stem cells. Results showed that all materials extracts did not have cytotoxic effects and did not induce apoptosis in the hDPSCs. Although Biodentine exhibited higher cell viability rates, there were no statistically significant differences between the material groups.

Assessment of Dental Arch Parameters in Turkish Twins

Sinem Birant, Mine Koruyucu, Yelda Kasimoglu, Mert Veznikli, Figen Seymen

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the contributions of genetic and environmental factors to variations in dental dimensions among Turkish twins. Results showed that heritability plays a significant role in dental arch dimensions, with monozygotic twins having less difference in measurements compared to dizygotic twins. Additionally, the study found that habits like finger sucking and mouth breathing can affect dental arch measurements.

Novel KLK4 Mutations Cause Hypomaturation Amelogenesis Imperfecta

Yejin Lee, Hong Zhang, Figen Seymen, Youn Jung Kim, Yelda Kasimoglu, Mine Koruyucu, James P. Simmer, Jan C. -C. Hu, Jung-Wook Kim

Summary: In this study, two novel mutations in the KLK4 gene were identified in four Turkish families with hypomaturation amelogenesis imperfecta. Functional analysis revealed that these mutations resulted in the production of either an inefficient or unstable protein. This study enhances our understanding of the normal and pathological mechanisms of enamel formation.

Novel Mutations in GPR68 and SLC24A4 Cause Hypomaturation Amelogenesis Imperfecta

Figen Seymen, Hong Zhang, Yelda Kasimoglu, Mine Koruyucu, James P. Simmer, Jan C. -C. Hu, Jung-Wook Kim

Summary: This study reported the findings of three families affected by amelogenesis imperfecta, identifying three novel gene mutations. The discovered mutations expand the mutational spectrum of AI-causing genes and improve our understanding of the normal and pathological amelogenesis process.

Clinical assessment of deleterious oral habits and dental caries-periodontal parameters among Turkish twins

Sabiha Ceren Ilisulu, Sinem Birant, Yelda Kasimoglu, Mine Koruyucu, Elif Bahar Tuna Ince, Figen Seymen

Summary: This study evaluated the association between deleterious oral habits and dental caries-periodontal parameters among Turkish twins. The findings suggest that harmful oral habits such as tooth brushing habits, pacifier sucking habits, and nail biting habits can affect dental caries and periodontal health.

Effects of Fixed and Removable Space Maintainers on Dental Plaque and DMFT/dft Values

Aliye Tugce Gurcan, Mine Koruyucu, Sinem Kuru, Elif Sepet, Figen Seymen

Summary: The study found that using space maintainers in pediatric patients can have negative impacts on oral health, including caries, increased plaque accumulation, demineralized areas, and periodontal problems. Therefore, good oral hygiene should be provided and regular controls should be performed to prevent these issues.
