An unique and novel octanuclear silver(I) cluster compound, [Ag-8(ADC)(4)](n) (1) (H(2)ADC = 1,3-adamantanedicarboxylic acid), has been synthesized and characterized. Compound 1 exhibits significant Ag-Ag interactions to form 2D infinite silver layers with multiple unsaturated Ag atoms. Moreover, Luminescent investigations show that 1 can exhibit highly selective response to Cr2O72- through luminescence quenching effect in aqueous solution, which make its good candidate as luminescent sensor.
