Summary: The study investigated whether any changes were made to the original participant's information sheet/informed consent form (PIS/ICF) provided by the WHO Solidarity Plus team when transferred to participating countries. The results showed that no edits were made in 8 countries, some elements were added in 8 countries, and 3 countries did not participate. The conclusion suggests that WHO should consider adding three omitted elements in the PIS/ICFs of future similar trials.

Summary: We conducted a census of trials conducted under the U.S. FDA's EFIC rule and found that 30 out of 69 completed trials were terminated early, mainly due to futility (15 trials) and poor recruitment (10 trials). The rate of trial conduct has remained relatively constant since 2001, with approximately 18 trials started in each 5-year period.

Summary: This study aimed to develop a personalized electronic informed consent interface to meet the needs of research participants and enable long-term interaction. The findings revealed varying perceptions of participants regarding the information described in informed consent forms, as well as recommendations for information structure, data sharing preferences, and electronic signing. Most participants expressed a desire to receive progress updates, preferably via email. In conclusion, an electronic informed consent interface may be a promising tool to interactively provide study-related information and keep participants informed.

Summary: Debates on genetic privacy have evolved over the past 30 years, with a focus on issues such as ownership and 'humanity' in the 1990s-2000s, the intersection of law and ethics with research infrastructures like biobanks in the 2000s-2010s, and the relational turn in genetic privacy in response to international research consortia and big data in the 2010s-2020s.

Summary: Among 360 RCTs, only two-thirds reported the number of patients assessed for eligibility. Trials reporting eligibility data had better methodology, reported on the tested hypothesis, included a placebo arm, evaluated soft outcomes, published their findings in higher impact journals, and recruited a higher number of randomized patients. Recruitment rates were significantly higher in trials sponsored by industry, conducted in multiple centers and countries, including inpatients, testing non-inferiority hypothesis, including a placebo arm, and evaluating surrogate outcomes.

Summary: Consent rates for neonatal randomized controlled trials tend to be higher in low- and lower middle-income countries compared to high-income countries, particularly in trials without placebos. However, the overrepresentation of India in trials from low- and lower middle-income countries may affect the accuracy of the results.

Summary: Research on heavy metal pollution in global coastal wetlands has seen a rapid increase in recent years, focusing on mercury, cadmium, and copper. Studies have mainly been conducted on salt marshes, mangrove forests, and estuaries, with less attention on seagrass beds and tidal flats. Emerging trends in literature over the past decade include anthropogenic sources, interactions with climate change, and ecological remediation strategies. Future studies should aim to deepen understanding, examine interactions with other environmental changes, and develop advanced analysis methods in this field.

Summary: Randomized clinical trials (RCTs) have shown that lifestyle modification interventions have positive effects compared to control groups. However, it was previously unknown whether participation in the control group also had benefits. This study found that control group participants in RCTs experienced weight loss, highlighting the importance of considering the benefits accrued by control groups when interpreting intervention effects in trials.

Summary: Dengue encephalitis is a severe clinical presentation of dengue infection. During a dengue outbreak in Vietnam, two DENV-3 strains were isolated, one from a patient with dengue encephalitis and another from a patient with classical dengue fever. Genetic variation was observed between the strains, and the CSF-derived DENV-3 showed unique infectivity characteristics for human neuronal cells.

Summary: We have modified the terminal amino group of N-1-(7-chloroquinolin-4-yl) butane-1,4-diamine to synthesize a series of 7-chloro-4-aminoquinoline derivatives and evaluated their potential as anti-malarial and anti-viral agents. Some of these compounds showed promising anti-malarial effects against both chloroquine-sensitive and chloroquine-resistant strains of Plasmodium falciparum. In addition, they were tested in vitro against influenza A virus (IAV) and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Compound 5h, which contained an N-mesityl thiourea group, exhibited significant anti-infectious effects against malaria, IAV, and SARS-CoV-2. These findings provide new insights for the discovery of drugs for malaria prevention and treatment, as well as virus co-infection.

Summary: This study aimed to systematically review the anticancer effects of compound K (CK). Fifty-four articles were included in the review, and the results showed that CK had potential anticancer activity in in vitro and in vivo studies, inhibiting various cancer cell lines. In mice models, there was a significant decrease in tumor volume after CK treatment. CK could be a potential supplementary treatment in cancer chemotherapies, but further safety assessments and clinical trials are needed for drug development.

Summary: The study aimed to assess the impact of Ho Chi Minh City's policy to delay the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on the equal provision of healthcare. The results showed that holding the second dose of the vaccine was associated with a lower risk of low oxygen saturation. Therefore, governments should consider adopting this approach for greater community benefit.

Summary: This study aims to explore the associations of the parent-child relationship, self-esteem, and resilience on the mental wellbeing and satisfaction with life of Vietnamese adolescents. The results showed that factors such as family support and sharing, higher academic performance, self-esteem, and resilience had a positive effect on life satisfaction and mental wellbeing. Female participants had higher satisfaction with life but lower mental wellbeing scores compared to male participants.

Summary: This study retrospectively examined the incidence, distribution, and risk factors associated with death in the second wave of the SARS-CoV-2 outbreak in Danang, Vietnam. The results showed significant associations between age, quarantine measures, previous negative test results, and symptoms (such as shortness of breath and myalgia) with the risk of death. The successful implementation of quarantine measures by Vietnamese authorities was observed, but the virus still spread beyond the country's control. Adequate screening, social distancing, and proper care for the elderly and healthcare workers can help reduce the risk of future outbreaks.

Summary: The first case of Marburgvirus disease (MVD) was reported in Germany and Serbia in 1967, and it has since become one of the most serious and deadly infectious diseases worldwide. MVD belongs to the family of Filoviridae and causes severe viral hemorrhagic fever (VHF) with a high case-fatality rate. Major risk factors for human infections include close contact with African fruit bats, MVD-infected non-human primates, and MVD-infected individuals. Currently, there is no vaccine or specific treatment for MVD, highlighting the urgency to address this disease.
