Summary: Stray/wild animals can cause serious damages to crops, especially in the Bundelkhand region of India where animals are let loose to open graze. The protective measures used by farmers are not fully effective and require regular maintenance. This study explores the potential of thorny bamboo as a bio-fence to deter stray/wild animals. The findings show that planting bamboo at a certain distance can be an effective solution to minimize the conflict between humans and animals, resulting in reduced crop damage.

Summary: This research aims to investigate the extraction and characterization of a specific Indian bamboo plant called Bambusa bambos. The fibres were extracted and chemically modified to improve their properties. The thermal, crystalinity, and morphological properties of the fibres were analyzed using TGA, XRD, and SEM. The results showed that the alkali-treated bamboo fibres exhibited enhanced thermal stability and tensile strength, making them suitable for reinforcement in polymer matrix composites in the automobile and construction industries.

Summary: PCOS is a common disorder in women of reproductive age, affecting their physiology and metabolism, and often leading to metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance; Berberine can intervene in the development of PCOS in multiple ways, including alleviating insulin resistance, reducing androgen levels, regulating lipid metabolism, and reducing inflammation.

Summary: This study investigated the different expression profiles of plasma exosomal miRNAs in PCOS patients and controls, and their potential roles in PCOS pathogenesis. Through sequencing and analysis, differentially expressed miRNAs were identified, which may contribute to the understanding of PCOS pathophysiology. The expression of certain miRNAs correlated with clinical features of PCOS and could help distinguish PCOS patients from controls.

Summary: Superovulation and estrus synchronisation treatment in sheep affected the levels of serum FSH and LH as well as the number of dominant follicles. Analysis of differentially expressed genes revealed their involvement in regulating follicular development, cell cycle, material synthesis, and energy metabolism. The findings provide a foundation for further research on improving the ovulation rate and birth rate of livestock using breeding techniques.

Summary: This study described lipidomic characteristics of offspring born to polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) women (PCOS-off) and identified significant alterations in lipid profiles, especially among girls (PCOS-g) and boys (PCOS-b) born to PCOS women. Abnormal lipid levels in PCOS-off indicated risks for glucose metabolism and cardiovascular diseases. Some lipids, such as phosphatidylcholines, lysophosphatidylcholine, and sphingomyelin, may serve as potential markers in this population.

Summary: This study investigated the isolated and synergistic effects of standardized Aronia melanocarpa extract (SEA) and metformin (MET) in alleviating reproductive and metabolic abnormalities in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The findings showed that SEA alone or in combination with MET could improve the PCOS rat model, restoring oxidative stress parameters and ameliorating reproductive and metabolic disturbances.

Summary: This study found that women with PCOS had higher body mass index, percentage of fat mass, and testosterone than controls. An increase in fat mass independently predicted higher triglyceride and LDL cholesterol levels, and lower HDL cholesterol levels.

Summary: The current guidelines recommend routine screening for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). This study aimed to investigate the serum profile of hepatokines in adolescent PCOS patients and their association with metabolic and hormonal parameters. The results showed that selenoprotein P and sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) concentrations were decreased in PCOS patients, while fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) concentrations were higher in PCOS patients with NAFLD. FGF21 may serve as a potential biomarker for hepatic disease in adolescent females with PCOS.

Summary: This study investigated the glucose and lipid metabolism in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) with and without Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT). 103 women were included as controls and 213 patients diagnosed with PCOS were studied. PCOS patients had higher levels of fasting insulin, insulin resistance, low-lipoprotein cholesterol, triglyceride, apolipoprotein B, apolipoprotein B/apolipoprotein A1, and homocysteine compared to controls. Patients with PCOS and HT had higher insulin levels and insulin resistance, as well as higher total cholesterol and thyroid-stimulating hormone levels. This highlights the importance of assessing thyroid function in PCOS patients.

Summary: The antibacterial and antifungal action of two types of wood vinegar (Eucalyptus urograndis and Bambusa vulgaris) was evaluated, and their chemical profiles were determined. Both types of wood vinegar exhibited significant antimicrobial activity, with the bamboo vinegar being more effective. GC/MS analysis showed that the chemical compositions of the two wood vinegars were similar but with some significant differences.

Summary: The effects of Polygonatum odoratum (Mill.) Druce extract (POD) on ovarian function and inflammation of rats with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) were investigated in this study. The results showed that POD could restore the estrous cycle, reduce the number of cystic follicles, decrease serum testosterone level, improve glucose tolerance, and down-regulate the expression of inflammatory cytokines in ovarian tissue of PCOS model rats after treatment.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate whether glucose tolerance status in women with PCOS affects glucose metabolism and sex hormone levels in their daughters or sisters. The results showed that first-degree relatives related to a glucose intolerant (GI) PCOS proband had lower beta-cell function and higher androgen levels, putting them at higher risk of glucose intolerance and PCOS development.
