Summary: Improving the stretchability of polymer semiconductors without compromising electrical properties was achieved by introducing conjugated rigid fused-rings with optimized bulky side groups. The polymer PIDT-3T-OC12-10% in the IDT system showed promising electrical and mechanical properties. The results emphasize the correlation between chemical structures, mechanical properties, and charge carrier mobility in polymer semiconductors.

Summary: In this study, new acceptor compounds with perylene diimide core structures and different end group units were synthesized and tested for their application in organic photovoltaic devices. The intensity of intramolecular charge transfer and absorption bands were enhanced by fusing dithiophenepyrrole moieties to the perylene diimide dimers. The research found that altering the end groups of the acceptor molecules can significantly affect the optical characteristics and power conversion efficiency of the devices.

Summary: Although NFREAs have lower synthetic costs, achieving high efficiencies in organic solar cells (OSCs) requires complex and expensive pre- or/and post-treatments. This study introduces phenylalkyl side groups (CnPh) to construct new NFREAs called BOR-CnPh without the need for additional treatments. The modified alkyl spacers of CnPh side groups control the acceptor's aggregation and regulate the interactions between donor (D) and acceptor (A). The optimization of the blend delivers efficient networks with a face-on orientation, resulting in the highest efficiency among as-cast OSCs based on NFREAs.

Summary: Despite recent progress, organic photovoltaics (OPVs) still need to work on balancing efficiency, stability, and cost. This study developed two non-fused electron acceptors which, when blended with a specific polymer, achieved the highest reported efficiency for fully unfused electron acceptors.

Summary: Fine-tuning the alkyl chains and end groups of non-fused ring electron acceptors (NFREAs) plays a crucial role in enhancing charge transfer and power conversion efficiency of organic solar cells (OSCs). This study developed a series of NFREAs with the same terminals and core unit but varying side chains and halogenated end groups, and found significant differences in efficiency and stability among the acceptors.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the thermal stability and UV-Vis absorption patterns of [60]fullerene derivatives with different substituents. The introduction of sterically bulky groups lowered the vacuum deposition temperature and prevented aggregation among neighboring [60]fullerenes. This concept could contribute to expanding the use of evaporable [60]fullerene derivatives in organic thin-film electronics research fields.

Summary: Molecular symmetry has slight effects on the absorption spectra, energy levels, and bandgaps, but notable effects on crystallinity, molecular packing, film morphology, and device performance. F7TC-1- and F7TC-2-based organic solar cells show significantly different power conversion efficiencies, mainly due to differences in molecular packing and film morphology.

Summary: In order to investigate the effects of substituents on the helically fused anthracene system, bulky phenyl groups were introduced at sterically crowded positions. Three derivatives were synthesized and analyzed. The results showed that the helical structures expanded in the order of steric size of the substituents. The substituent effects on the optical and chiroptical properties were relatively small.
