The research demonstrates the clinical therapeutic effect of walnut green husks and successfully prepares antibacterial PVP fiber membranes using extraction and electrospinning technology, offering potential strategies for developing drug delivery systems.
As a by-product of walnuts crops, the clinical therapeutic effect of Walnut green husks has already been proven. In this work, with 95% ethanol and ultrasonicwave extraction technology to extract the Walnut green husks, by electrospinning technology, successfully prepared PVP fiber membranes with different concentrations of the extract. The properties of those diverse fibers were analyzed by Conductometry meter, Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). The results show that the average diameter of nanofibers decreases and the electrical conductivity increases with the increase of the crude extract content of walnut green husk. For the FT-IR analysis, there were obvious characteristic absorption peaks of Juglone (5-hydroxy1,4-naphthoquinone) on the fibers. Furthermore, an antibacterial experiment on Escherichia coli revealed that the Walnut green husks loaded on the nanofiber membranes with different extract concentrations all have antibacterial effects, and the size of the inhibition zone increased with the decrease of the diameter of the diameter of the nanofiber and the increase of the Walnut green husks' extracts loaded, thereby proving potential strategies to develop drug delivery system. At the same time, only ethanol reagent is used in the polymer use process, and the experimental process is environmentally friendly, thereby reducing the pollution of organic reagents and expanding the idea of green application of polymers.
