Moderate exogenous hyperhomocysteinemia is associated with an increase in lymphocyte count (mainly at the expense of cytotoxic T cells), a 2-fold drop of the immunoregulatory index, and increase in TNF-alpha, IFN-gamma, and IL-17 alpha concentrations in the serum and in mononuclear cells. Homocysteine concentration in the mononuclears remains unchanged.
