Summary: This study evaluated the increase in salivary lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels in patients with oral cancer (OC) or oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMD) compared to a healthy control group (CG). Results showed that LDH levels were higher in the OC group and patients with oral leucoplakia and oral submucous fibrosis also had higher levels. Salivary LDH determination may be a useful method for screening and tracking OC and OPMD, but further studies are needed to establish precise cutoff values.

Summary: Oral cancer is a critical health issue, with the majority of new cases occurring in Asia. Various factors, such as genetics and lifestyle, are closely associated with its occurrence and progression. Early signs of oral cancer include oral lesions, genetic mutations, and viral infections. Lesions with dysplastic features have a high risk of malignancy, and OPMDs have a high prevalence in South Asian countries. Early detection, prevention, and treatment of OPMDs are crucial.

Summary: This systematic review focused on selecting a panel of salivary biomarkers for early detection of OSCC and OPMD, as well as assessing their relationships with risk factors. Salivary biomarkers could play a significant role in future early disease detection, but further research is needed to fully understand their potential impact.

Summary: This study systematically reviewed the evidence on the therapeutic effects of vitamin supplementation for oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs) and oral cancer (OC). The results showed that vitamin K, vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin B, and vitamin D all had therapeutic benefits. The research on oral cancer was extensive, with a focus on oral lichen planus and oral leukoplakia among the OPMDs. However, standardizing the study design and outcomes is needed to enhance future research.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the frequency, epidemiological profile, and traditional risk factors of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) associated or not with oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMD) in Latin America. The results suggest that OSCC-dn is more frequent in Latin America, with regional variations in some clinical and histopathological features.

Summary: Researchers synthesized paired reagents of DMPI and d(3)-DMPI, which can efficiently react with phosphate groups on polar phosphorylated metabolites. They found that tagging DMPI onto ribonucleotides significantly increased ionization efficiencies during LC/MS analysis, resulting in enhanced detection sensitivities.

Summary: Early diagnosis of potentially malignant oral disorders is crucial for reducing oral cancer mortality. This study analyzed a panel of salivary markers and found that ferritin and total proteins may serve as potential salivary biomarkers for diagnosis. Additionally, saliva tests are reliable and non-invasive diagnostic tools that offer an interesting alternative for screening large populations.

Summary: Vitamin D deficiency not only affects systemic health, but also has implications on oral health for both children and adults. Studies show that supplementing with Vitamin D during pregnancy and afterwards has positive effects on oral health for mothers and children. Vitamin D deficiency can lead to poor tooth mineralization, defects in enamel and dentin, and an increased risk of cavities.

Summary: Refractory osteomyelitis can lead to complications in advanced mandibular osteoradionecrosis (ORN), such as recurrent cellulitis and pathological fractures. The optimal treatment for such conditions has not been established yet. Difficulty in intake and severe pain caused by mandibular ORN may result in malnutrition and underweight. Refeeding syndrome (RFS) should be considered in invasive surgical procedures.
