Summary: This study aimed to investigate the potential effects of alpha-ketoglutarate (alpha-KG) on implant osseointegration in an osteoporotic mouse model. The results showed that the supplementation of alpha-KG in drinking water enhanced dental implant osseointegration in ovariectomized mice, with increased osteogenic and autophagic activity, and decreased osteoclast differentiation and cell apoptosis. Moreover, alpha-KG-treated bone-marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells exhibited enhanced proliferation, survival, colony formation, and osteogenic differentiation, as well as autophagic activity. Therefore, systemic alpha-KG supplementation effectively prevents the failure of dental implant osseointegration in mice under an osteoporotic state.

Summary: The purpose of this rat study was to investigate the feasibility of temperature thresholds affecting bone contact at the surface of implants in vivo. The results showed that thermal necrosis should be used for implant removal in subsequent in vivo studies. The study found that temperatures ranging from 48°C to 50°C led to a decrease in the BIC ratio, with significant differences observed between the 50°C group and the control group. However, there were no significant variations within the cold temperatures.

Summary: This study aims to design a personalized two-stage root analog implant (RAI) with a compact structure and uniform roughness to achieve better fracture resistance, initial osseointegration efficiency, and dispersed stress in immediate implantation. RAIs were manufactured using selective laser melting technology, and in vivo experiments showed that they had higher bone-implant contact and bone volume/total volume compared to conventional implants. Customized abutments were also designed for the RAIs, improving the masticatory ability of the beagle dogs.

Summary: This article evaluates the clinical evidence of peri-implant disease in metabolically compromised patients, particularly those with poorly-controlled diabetes, in order to guide clinical management. The review included clinical studies with follow-up of more than 1 year, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses. Results showed conflicting conclusions regarding the long-term impact of diabetes on peri-implant health in diabetic patients.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of aging on the changes in implant stability over time following implant placement. The results showed that the stability of implants in elderly patients is not related to age, but rather to the engagement of the implant with the bone.

Summary: This study assessed the safety and efficacy of a new implant system using a minipig intraoral dental implant model. The results showed that the new implant system had higher bone-to-implant contact and histological performance, supporting its safety and efficacy. Further human studies should be conducted to validate these findings.

Summary: Dental implants made from titanium and its alloys have revolutionized restorative dentistry by offering a natural-looking and durable solution for missing or severely damaged teeth. These materials have exceptional biocompatibility, corrosion resistance, and mechanical properties that align perfectly with the demanding requirements of dental implants. This review highlights the manufacturing techniques, intrinsic properties, and clinical effectiveness of titanium and its alloy dental implants, while also discussing limitations and future trends for further research and development.

Summary: This systematic review analyzed the use of Fractal Dimension (FD) as a tool to measure implant stability based on trabecular changes. The results showed that FD can serve as a measure of implant stability, but it should be used in conjunction with other methods and factors, as it may not be a sole indicator.

Summary: This study compared the effect of different root conditioning agents during manual scaling on the attachment and viability of human gingival fibroblasts. Results showed the highest cell viability in the scaled only group and the lowest in the scaled with EDTA group. Adjunctive therapies did not enhance the attachment of GF to the root surface beyond the effect of SRP.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the changes in serum levels of Dickkopf-related protein-1 (DKK1) and periodontal clinical parameters before and after nonsurgical periodontal treatment in smokers and nonsmokers with periodontitis. The results showed that nonsurgical periodontal treatment effectively improved periodontal clinical parameters and reduced DKK1 serum levels, but there were no significant differences in DKK1 serum levels between smokers and non-smokers.

Summary: This study examines socket morphology of maxillary and mandibular molars using CBCT, including bone width, interradicular bone width, and proximity to vital structures. Measurements show that the MB root of the second molar commonly intrudes into the sinus, while the mandibular second molar has the shortest distance to the IAN. Understanding alveolar bone anatomy is crucial for implant treatment planning.
