Summary: Deepfakes, which are artificial but hyper-realistic videos, audios, and images created by algorithms, are a recent technological development in artificial intelligence. They can quickly spread through social media and lead to various forms of marketplace deception. However, the understanding of their implications in the marketplace is limited. We provide insights into the significance of deepfakes for firms and consumers, addressing the risks they pose, strategies to mitigate those risks, and the opportunities they offer. Our findings reveal that firms face risks such as damage to image and reputation, while consumers may suffer from blackmail, defamation, and harassment. We identify strategies to safeguard against deepfake-based marketplace deception and highlight the legitimate opportunities this new technology brings.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of political brand hate and individual moral consciousness on the intention to share political deepfake videos. The findings suggest that ideological incompatibility leads to political brand hate, positively affecting the intention to share political deepfakes. This effect is partially mediated by reduced intention to verify the videos. Individual moral consciousness also moderates the relationship between political brand hate and intention to share political deepfakes, indicating that moral consciousness fuels the desire for anti-branding behavior.

Summary: This exploratory study aimed to understand elderly people's expected behavior in accepting and using machine autonomy controlled by ambient intelligence. The study collected detailed survey data from elderly people living with their family members in Bangladesh. The results from structural equation modeling (SEM) showed that the acceptance of automation systems driven by ambient intelligence was linked to concerns about emotional belongingness, social interaction, and the ability to use technology for elderly people. Trust played a crucial role in forming the behavioral intention to accept machine autonomy, but this could vary based on personality and behavioral attitude differences.

Summary: This study aims to explore the mechanism of attitude-intention-purchase behavior for the online purchase of apparel. Based on the theory of planned behavior, the moderating effects of electronic word of mouth, perceived risk, and perceived behavioral control are examined. Data from 432 online apparel consumers were collected through a survey questionnaire, and analyzed using Hayes's PROCESS macros. The results show that online purchase intention mediates the relationship between attitudes and actual purchase behavior. Furthermore, the three-way interactions between attitude, perceived risk, and electronic word of mouth, as well as attitude, electronic word of mouth, and perceived behavioral control, have significant effects on purchase intention and actual purchase behavior mediated through purchase intention. The findings contribute to the literature on online buying by exploring the double-moderating effects of electronic word of mouth.

Summary: Negative psychological experiences, such as exposure to a status threat, can significantly influence consumers' behavior. Previous studies have shown that consumers often choose to cope with a status threat by purchasing status-related or hedonic products, but this research suggests that consumers who perceive the threat as controllable are more likely to prefer self-improvement products within their own domain. Furthermore, trade-off beliefs play a moderating role in the relationship between status threat and perceived loss of control, which subsequently predicts consumers' preference for self-improvement products across different domains.

This study expands upon the private-collective innovation model using a networking approach and reveals the influence of network closure and positional embeddedness on technical contribution. The empirical findings show that network closure has a negative impact on technical contribution, while the relationship between positional embeddedness and technical contribution follows an inverted U-shape. Moreover, high positional embeddedness can counteract the negative influence of extensive network closure on technical contribution. These effects are moderated by different developer groups.

Summary: During times of crisis, employees look to their managers for information and guidance. Sharing distinctive, consistent, and consensual information, also known as human resource management (HRM) system strength, makes it easier for employees to understand their roles. This study explores the factors that influence managers when sharing information with employees, and suggests that the interaction between managers' motivation and their cultural values can explain HRM system strength in times of crisis. The findings indicate that crisis severity and organization reputation have stronger effects on HRM system strength in countries with high uncertainty avoidance, but weaker effects in countries with high power distance. Implications for theory and practice are discussed.

The findings suggest that circular shapes lead to more favorable evaluations of distant brand extensions compared to angular shapes, and these effects are mediated by consumers' cognitive flexibility and fit perceptions. The influence of shapes on brand extension evaluation diminishes when a sub-branding strategy is used to introduce the extension product, but is not affected when a direct-branding strategy is used. These results were replicated across different product categories and cultures and have implications for both theory and practice.
