Summary: The recycling of electrode materials from spent lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) focuses on the recovery of transition metals for the production of new batteries or catalysts. Hydrometallurgical processes are more commonly used than pyrometallurgical processes for the recovery of transition metal oxides, which have a significant impact on catalysis applications. Additionally, the synthesis of transition metal based compounds should be developed to enhance their photo-electro-catalytic activities.

Summary: By combining LIBS and absorption spectroscopy with machine learning, Greek extra virgin olive oils of different olive cultivars were successfully discriminated with accuracies exceeding 90%. Fusion of LIBS emission spectra with absorption spectra for the first time significantly improved prediction accuracy, demonstrating the potential of this combination for olive oil quality monitoring and control.

Summary: In this study, Pd-based biomass-derived carbon-supported catalysts were developed using a simple method. The effects of modifying the metal phase and support, as well as the synthetic protocol used, were assessed. It was found that the resulting PdAg-based catalysts supported on N-doped biomass-derived carbon materials exhibited suitable activity and excellent stability under reaction conditions.

Summary: The study investigated the efficiency of hydrogen production by doping nickel foam precursors with nickel, cobalt particles, and decorating with silver nano-domes. The catalyst NF/NiCo-2/Ag showed the best performance in terms of lower hydrogen overpotential, higher HPE, stability, and response during the electrolysis process in 1 M KOH.

Summary: One of the most important funerary objects in ancient Egypt was the canopic chests, which varied in shape and purpose over different periods. A painted wooden canopic chest dating from the late 27th dynasty to the Greco-Roman period was used as a case study to experimentally study the treatment of the red cinnabar pigment using nano silica as a consolidation material. The study compared the effectiveness of inorganic and hybrid forms of nano silica and utilized various analytical and examination methods to evaluate the results.

Summary: This study successfully achieved the enzymatic production of isoamyl levulinate through esterification in a solvent system. A low-cost liquid lipase immobilized by physical adsorption was used as a heterogeneous biocatalyst, which demonstrated high ester yield and catalyst stability. The proposed experimental procedure is considered an acceptable green process, contributing to the sustainable production of valuable industrial esters.

Summary: Recently, the use of asphalt modifiers to improve the mechanical and thermal properties of asphalt mixtures has gained attention. This study investigated the effects of bio-based phase change material (PCM) and PCM mixed with glass powder (GPCM) on the rheological, spectroscopic, and chemical properties of asphalt binders. The results showed that the addition of PCMs reduced the viscosity of the binders and released stored heat at the melting/freezing temperature. However, the addition of GPCM negatively affected the thermal properties of the PCMs in the asphalt mix. Additionally, the stiffness of the binders modified with GPCM at intermediate temperatures showed significant changes.

Summary: The gas phase thermo-photo production of hydrogen from methanol-water mixtures was experimentally tested using platinum ceria-titania ternary solids. By combining heat and light sources, a synergetic effect among components of the solids was observed, leading to enhanced catalytic activity and hydrogen production through a series of chemical reactions involving carbon-containing intermediates.

Summary: Production of ammonia by surface reactions of H and N atoms on surfaces not wetted by partially ionized plasma was studied. The interaction efficiency was measured in a laboratory setup, and the production depended on the fluxes of H and N atoms onto the surface. Nickel showed the highest efficiency of up to 50%, followed by tungsten with up to 30% efficiency, and P92 alloy with up to 20% efficiency. Methods for suppressing ammonia formation in fusion reactors will be necessary for long-term operation.

Summary: This article introduces the application of digital twins in the scheduling system of a workshop. By utilizing virtual-real fusion technology, the information and logistics flows are integrated into the production scheduling mechanism and the balance optimization and modeling of a mixed-flow production line are conducted. A scheduling system that comprehensively considers uncertain factors and achieves real-time synergy is designed, achieving successful implementation in the workshop and providing a reference for the application of digital twins in production workshops.

Summary: This study presents two novel methods for fusing RGB and Depth images with LIBS using Deep Learning models. The first method is a single-output model that combines LIBS UNET and two DenseNets in a late fusion framework. The second method is a multiple-output model that uses the structure of the single-output model to enhance learning and avoid overfitting. Both methods showed promising results in sorting aluminum scrap.

Summary: In X-ray spectroscopic studies, K beta 1,3 lines have been used to examine the chemical states of 3d transition metals, but are not suitable for characterizing iron oxides. Instead, FeL-lines, which involve the valence shell 3d electrons, were inspected and found to provide information on the chemical states of iron. The study established a linear relationship between the chemical shift of FeL beta 1 line and spin multiplicity, allowing for the speciation of iron.
