Summary: The study suggests that teprenone may have a beneficial role in reducing gastrointestinal adverse events in patients receiving long-term NSAIDs, but the certainty of evidence is low and further high-quality research is needed for confirmation.

Summary: Continuation of ASA in elective craniotomies does not increase the risk of hemorrhage, but the potential benefits for thromboembolic events need further investigation in patients receiving ASA for secondary prevention.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed cases of intestinal foreign bodies causing complications and evaluated the risk factors for severe complications and surgery. The results showed that most patients were unable to provide a history of foreign body ingestion, bezoars were the most common foreign bodies, and surgery and endoscopic therapy were the most commonly used treatment modalities.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of long-term aspirin use on perioperative complications in patients undergoing shoulder arthroplasty. The results showed that long-term aspirin use may increase the risk of complications such as blood transfusion, genitourinary disease, acute renal failure, and acute myocardial infarction, while it may also play a protective role in preventing acute cerebrovascular disease and stroke.

Summary: This study evaluated the VCE characteristics of small intestinal mucosal abnormalities in patients with intestinal lymphangiectasia (IL) and investigated the relationship between clinical and VCE characteristics. The study identified specific VCE abnormalities in IL patients, in addition to classical endoscopic findings.

Summary: The study found that the prophylactic use of 100 mg aspirin twice daily was not statistically different from that of rivaroxaban in preventing venous thromboembolism (VTE) and reducing the risk of blood loss following elective primary total hip arthroplasty (THA). This supports aspirin as a less expensive and more widely available option for future THAs.

Summary: This study compared the blood loss, transfusion rates, and complications between patients who received aspirin preoperatively and those who didn't in unilateral and bilateral total knee arthroplasties (TKAs). The results showed that the aspirin group had a higher drainage volume in bilateral TKAs, but there was no significant difference in blood loss and transfusion rates. The aspirin group had significantly lower hemoglobin and hematocrit levels compared to the control group in both unilateral and bilateral TKAs. The aspirin group had a lower rate of vascular-related complications in unilateral TKAs, but a higher rate of wound events compared to the control group.

Summary: The study indicates that pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) under retrobulbar anesthesia can be safely performed in patients receiving systemic aspirin therapy without discontinuing the aspirin. Hemorrhagic complications and the need for additional operations due to hemorrhagic complications did not differ significantly among patients on aspirin therapy, those who discontinued aspirin before surgery, and the control group. Thromboembolic events were not observed during the follow-up period for any patient in the study.

Summary: A complex relationship model was designed to predict the association between surgical complications and preoperative risk factors using data from 51,030 surgical inpatients in China. Malnourished status was widely associated with other risk factor clusters and complications, while an ASA score > 3 directly influenced other risk factor clusters and severe complications. Grade III complications were directly dependent on 4/5 risk factor clusters and affected all other grades of complication. Complication occurrence increased the risk of other grades of complication.

Summary: Contemporary systems categorize patients into sub-classes based on symptoms to enable targeted treatment, but overlapping symptom categories negatively impact outcomes, lacking guidance on management. An APAGE working group developed clinical practice guidelines for management of patients with functional dyspepsia (FD) who have overlaps with other functional gastrointestinal disorders. They identified putative pathophysiology and provided a management algorithm for primary and secondary care clinicians.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of gastrointestinal symptoms and post-COVID-19 disorders of gut-brain interaction among hospitalized patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection. The results showed that patients with COVID-19 had higher rates of gastrointestinal symptoms on hospital admission and lower rates of constipation and hard stools at 12 months post-infection compared to the control group. Additionally, the rate of irritable bowel syndrome was significantly higher in patients with COVID-19 than in controls.

Summary: We investigated the long-term incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and hepatic decompensation among chronic hepatitis B patients who have achieved hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) seroclearance. The study found that the proportion of patients who developed HCC after HBsAg clearance was 1.1%, while the proportion of patients who developed hepatic decompensation was 1.3%. HBsAg clearance for over 7 years was associated with a reduced risk of hepatic decompensation but not HCC.

Summary: By comparing IBS patients from the UK and Malaysia, it was found that UK patients were more likely to consume alcohol, had more frequent symptoms such as pain, bloating, and meal-related issues, higher symptom scores, greater limitation of activities, and a higher likelihood of reporting abnormal anxiety. UK patients also had higher levels of perceived stress, gastrointestinal symptom-specific anxiety, and somatoform symptom-reporting.

Summary: This study evaluates the real-world practice of H. pylori management in Southeast Asia and finds that multidrug-resistant strains are emerging in the region. It reveals that inappropriate regimens containing antibiotics with high resistance rates are not uncommon, especially among non-gastroenterologist physicians. Furthermore, there are significant issues with the conventional first-line treatment in countries with high clarithromycin resistance.
