Development of crescentic membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis after COVID-19 vaccination

Summary: This article reports a rare case of a 47-year-old female who developed rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. De novo and relapsing necrotizing vasculitis after COVID-19 vaccination

Summary: Five cases of severe necrotizing vasculitis following SARS-CoV-2 RNA-based vaccine were described, including four cases of relapsing ANCA vasculitis and one case of de novo PAN in a patient with quiescent chronic hepatitis B. Ten additional cases were reported in the French national pharmacovigilance database, with six patients having ANCA-associated vasculitis and four patients having PAN (with first symptoms occurring on average 19 days after vaccination). Five of these 10 patients developed kidney dysfunction. In conclusion, COVID-19 vaccines may be associated with de novo or recurrent ANCA vasculitis or PAN, and attention should be given to patients with known ANCA vasculitis or a history of hepatitis B infection.

Mitigation behavior prior to COVID-19 vaccination availability is associated with COVID-19 infection and time to vaccination

Summary: This study aimed to identify groups of individuals based on their self-reported compliance with COVID-19 mitigation behaviors and explored the associations between compliance classes and important study and public health outcomes. Through latent class analysis, the participants were categorized into three classes: most compliant, moderately compliant, and least compliant. These compliance classes had distinct characteristics, such as age, sex, medical history, and ethnicity, and were associated with important outcomes. Targeted public health policies and interventions based on compliance group characteristics may help increase compliance.

Acute kidney disease following COVID-19 vaccination: a single-center retrospective study

Cerebrovascular Complications of COVID-19 and COVID-19 Vaccination

Summary: The risk of stroke and cerebrovascular disease complicating SARS-CoV-2 infection has been extensively reported. The rapid development and mass vaccination of DNA and mRNA vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 have led to rare but catastrophic cases of thrombosis. This review provides an overview of stroke and cerebrovascular complications of SARS-CoV-2 infection, as well as vaccinations, with a focus on vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia. A therapeutic protocol is proposed based on available data.

COVID-19 vaccination is associated with reduced non-COVID in-hospital mortality

Summary: This study investigated data from medical patients at a regional Israeli hospital. The findings showed that non-COVID-19 hospital mortality was associated with vaccination status, age, and laboratory data. Serum sodium, age, serum creatinine, and COVID-19 vaccination status were identified as the main factors associated with non-COVID-19 mortality. The study also revealed that non-vaccinated patients had a higher in-hospital mortality rate compared to vaccinated patients.

Spirituality is associated with Covid-19 vaccination scepticism

Summary: Vaccine scepticism is a significant global health risk, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. This study investigated the role of spirituality in scepticism towards Covid-19 vaccines and found that individuals who strongly identified as spiritual were more sceptical. This scepticism was related to low faith in science but not conspiracy beliefs. Furthermore, spirituality was also associated with indecisiveness in getting vaccinated among those who were already vaccinated.

Three models were trained and tested on different datasets to assess their accuracy in detecting the disease. The results suggest that the algorithm has the potential to be used as a screening tool for diabetic kidney disease.

A deep learning system for retinal vessel calibre improves cardiovascular risk prediction in Asians with chronic kidney disease
