Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) is widely used as plasticizer in numerous kinds of products such as plastic packaging in food industries. There is a high risk of DBP exposure for human; it can easily migrate into the human bodies through food plastic packaging and be a potential hazard for human health. In this study the neurobehavioral effects of oral DBP for 14 days (6.25, 12.5, 25, 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg) were investigated in mice, using open field, Y-maze, elevated plus maze, passive avoidance test, rotarod and grip strength test. The results showed that DBP could reduce total distance movement, impair memory function and induce anxiety in mice. Histological analysis (haematoxylin-eosin staining) also showed significant nuclei size reduction and condensation in dentate gyrus cells of the DBP treated mice. In conclusion oral DBP administration for 14 days may cause some neurobehavioral adverse effects in mice. (C) 2016 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

An Intensified Acrolein Exposure Can Affect Memory and Cognition in Rat

Mona Khoramjouy, Nima Naderi, Farzad Kobarfard, Elmira Heidarli, Mehrdad Faizi

Summary: Chronic oral exposure to acrolein can lead to neurobehavioral and electrophysiological disturbances, as well as impair learning and memory. There is a direct correlation between acrolein concentration and neurotoxicity.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the rabies virus glycoprotein (RVG) affects synaptic function in the hippocampal dentate gyrus of rats, facilitating both short- and long-term synaptic plasticity by potentially involving both pre- and postsynaptic mechanisms to alter synaptic function. Further research is needed to elucidate the underlying mechanisms.

The Role of the Possible Receptors and Intracellular Pathways in Protective Effect of Exogenous Anandamide in Kindling Model of Epilepsy

Sepideh Khaksar, Mona Salimi, Hadi Zeinoddini, Nima Naderi

Summary: This research investigated the involvement of CB1 and TRPV1 receptors in the protective effects of anandamide in epilepsy. The results showed that anandamide decreased seizure scores, while the TRPV1 and CB1 antagonists had no effect on seizure scores. Co-administration of the antagonists attenuated the protective effect of anandamide. Furthermore, anandamide led to a decrease in the expressions of CREB and p-CREB in hippocampal neurons.

Summary: Aldehydes are widely used in organic synthesis due to their high reactivity, but caution is needed in medicinal chemistry to avoid undesired reactions with nucleophiles in biological media. Research on spiramycin reveals its transformation in aqueous solution, leading to inaccurate monitoring results based on mass spectrometry methods.

Summary: This study formulated a herbal syrup based on Iranian traditional medicine and evaluated its effect on a rat model of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The results showed that the herbal syrup improved hormone levels and restored ovarian morphology in the rats. This syrup could be a potential treatment option for PCOS, deserving further clinical trials.

Summary: This study suggests that succinyl phosphonate (SP) may be a promising therapeutic approach for improving memory impairment in Alzheimer's disease (AD), especially in the early stages. The experimental results show that SP enhances task learning, alleviates the negative effects of Aβ treatment on spatial learning and memory, and reverses the effects of Aβ on key enzyme activities.
