Summary: Advancing equality and equity in society is creating positive change, and it is necessary to critically evaluate veterinary medicine, which lacks diversity in all aspects. To keep up with an increasingly diverse population and rising pet ownership, efforts to enhance diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging must be made in veterinary colleges and the profession.

Summary: Natural disasters, such as earthquakes, can have a traumatic impact on children's psychological wellbeing and development. Research has shown that interventions aimed at enhancing children's socio-emotional learning can effectively improve their knowledge about disasters and preparedness. However, there is limited research on evidence-based training programs for earthquakes that combine digital and traditional activities. In this study, a 10-unit training program was tested on primary school children, showing significant improvements in their knowledge and metacognition about earthquakes, safety behaviors, emotions, and coping strategies.

Summary: There is a growing movement in engineering for students and practitioners to embrace failure and build resilience. This paper presents a preliminary study on the use of sketching practice to provide students with low-risk failures and confidence-building opportunities. The study found that the sketching activity was effective in increasing students' comfort with failure, as well as improving sketch smoothness and proportion/accuracy. Gender differences were also observed, with women initially more confident in sketching but men experiencing greater growth in confidence. Women also scored higher in sketch smoothness and proportion/accuracy.

Summary: This paper presents a delicate and general solution for non-viscously damped linear multi-degree-of-freedom systems under seismic load, using Laplace transform and Duhamel's principle. The response spectrum method and modal combination rules are extended for general non-viscously damped structures.

Summary: There have been ongoing debates about the Master of Social Work (MSW) Advanced Standing programs, with many schools offering direct entry into specialized second year for students with a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW). Some argue that BSW programs do not adequately prepare students for specialized programs and direct social work practice. This teaching note discusses a seminar developed to bridge the gap and prepare Advanced Standing students for competent direct social work practice using innovative teaching methods.

Summary: The objective of this study was to compare the operative experience of general surgery residents and practicing general surgeons. The study found that US general surgery residents have a similar operative experience to practicing general surgeons in core general surgery domains. These data suggest that modern surgical training adequately exposes residents to the operations they may perform in practice.

Summary: This mixed-methods study examined general education teachers' perceptions of autism and pedagogical practices in early elementary classrooms in the United States to identify target areas for professional development. Teachers identified core symptoms of autism such as social difficulties and focused/fixed interests, as well as inclusive practices and relationship-building strategies like assigning special classroom responsibilities and embracing students' special interests. The findings suggest implications for teacher trainings in enhancing support and understanding for students with autism.

Summary: Decades of research have shown that early childhood teachers often lack the discipline knowledge of science concepts, leading to a limited amount of science being taught in this period. A new study proposes a different approach to conceptualizing teacher confidence and competence in science in order to increase the amount of science taught in play-based settings. Results from a 10-week professional development program using cultural-historical theory show that it is not teacher knowledge of concepts that hinders science teaching, but rather how to incorporate concepts into play practices to engage children in science.

Summary: This study updated the 2011 Canadian Community Health Nursing Standards of Practice through a rigorous review process that included a scoping review of literature, focus groups, and a modified Delphi method. The consultation process involving 495 community health nurses enhanced the standards in areas such as cultural safety, cultural humility, Indigenous health, health equity, and evidence-informed practice. The comprehensive revision process outlined in this article can serve as a model for other nursing specialty groups developing or revising practice standards worldwide.

Summary: This study investigates the association between asthma and ultraviolet radiation, temperature, relative humidity, and precipitation in England. Results show that climate factors play a role in asthma prevalence, with high temperature and UV radiation being beneficial, while high humidity is detrimental. Understanding these relationships could help explain the distribution of asthma in the population.
