Acetylcholinesterase Inhibitor (AchEl) is the most extensive in all anti-dementia drugs. The extracts and isolated compounds from the Valeriana genus have shown anti-dementia bioactivity. Four new sesquiterpenoids (1-4) and a new monoterpenoid (5) were isolated from the root of Valeriana officinalis var. latiofolia. The acetylcholinesterase (AchE) inhibitory activity of isolates was evaluated by modified Ellman method in vitro. Learning and memory ability of compound 4 on mice was evaluated by the Morris water maze. The contents of acetylcholine (Ach), acetylcholine transferase (ChAT) and AchE in mice brains were determined by colorimetry. The results showed IC50 of compound 4 was 0.161 mu M in vitro. Compared with the normal group, the learning and memory ability of mice and the contents of Ach and ChAT decreased in model group mice (P < 0.01), while the AchE increased (P < 0.01). Compared with the model group, Ach and ChAT in the positive control group, the high-dose group and the medium-dose group increased (P < 0.01), while the AchE decreased (P < 0.01). Compound 4 can improve the learning and memory abilities of APPswe/PS Delta E9 double-transgenic mice, and the mechanism may be related to the regulation of the relative enzyme in the cholinergic system. Numerical investigations of the particle deposition in the human terminal alveoli under the Martian gravity

Jintao Wang, Hao Jing, Yaning Feng, Haiwen Ge, Liang Chen, Jie Lin, Zhaojun Xi, Xinguang Cui

Summary: This study numerically investigates the behavior of Martian micro-particles in a human alveolar model under Martian gravity. It considers various physical and physiological factors and makes important findings: 1) Martian particle deposition is sensitive to alveolar direction and respiratory depth, but not to wall motion pattern; 2) particle size and density affect the starting time and duration of deposition; 3) compared to Earth gravity, deposition efficiency decreases and deposition time is prolonged under Martian gravity. It concludes that particle deposition under Martian gravity differs significantly from that under Earth gravity.

Summary: In this work, optical convolution is achieved through a time-wavelength plane stretching approach on a microcomb-driven chip-based photonic processing unit. Optical neural networks (ONN) have greatly benefited from parallel convolution-operation technology, which utilizes the dimension of optical wavelength to enhance complexity and functionality. However, challenges in high-level integration and on-chip operation remain for this advanced architecture. The authors develop a dedicated control and operation protocol, enabling a record high weight precision and demonstrating comparable processing capability to that of a digital computer in proof-of-concept experiments.

Numerical investigations of the micro lunar dust particles deposition in the human oral respiratory airway

Xinguang Cui, Wei Song, Yuan Xue, Hanxiong Guan, Jinhua Zhang, Xinxing He, Honglei Ma, Ming Lei, Jintao Wang, Yichao Li

Summary: Understanding how lunar dust particles deposit in the human respiratory system is crucial for protecting astronauts from lunar dust toxicity. A Euler-Lagrangian method is used to track the motion of lunar dust particles in a human oral airway model. The study considers different factors such as inspiration rates, particle sizes, abnormal pressures, and temperatures. The findings show that most lunar dust particles tend to enter the right lung, especially the upper right lobe. Lower ambient pressure leads to fewer particles depositing in the upper airway and more entering the lung. Lower temperature results in more particles depositing in the upper airway and fewer in the lung.

Synthesis and biological evaluation of ruthenium complexes containing phenylseleny against Gram-positive bacterial infection by damage membrane integrity and avoid drug-resistance

Hai-Yan Huang, Qian Wang, Chun-Yan Zhang, Zi-Xiang Chen, Jin-Tao Wang, Xiang-Wen Liao, Ru-Jian Yu, Yan-Shi Xiong

Summary: In this study, four ruthenium complexes modified with selenium-ether were synthesized and showed excellent antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus). The most active complex, Ru(II)-4, efficiently targeted the bacterial cell membrane, preventing drug resistance and inhibiting biofilm formation. In toxicity experiments, Ru(II)-4 exhibited low mammalian toxicity. In vivo tests using both G. mellonella wax worms and mouse skin infection models confirmed the potential of Ru(II)-4 as an effective antibacterial agent against S. aureus infections, with minimal toxicity to mouse tissue. These findings highlight the promising strategy of introducing selenium-atom into ruthenium compounds for developing interesting antibacterial agents.

Resolving the Contradiction between Efficiency and Transparency of Semitransparent Perovskite Solar Cells by Optimizing Dielectric-Metal-Dielectric Transparent Top Electrode

Chenyang He, Jintao Wang, Shuming Chen, Yibin Zhou, Ning Jiang, Jian Zhang, Yu Duan

Summary: The researchers designed a sandwich-type transparent conductive electrode by combining atomic layer deposition ZnO and thermally evaporated Ag films, proving that its film conductivity and optical transmittance are superior to metal electrodes with the same thickness. By using an optimized solution-based thin and continuous CH3NH3PbI3 (MAPbI(3)) film as the light absorber layer, the semitransparent perovskite solar cells (ST-PSCs) achieved a power conversion efficiency of 10% and an average visible transmittance of 19.6%. These findings illustrate a novel structure design strategy to overcome the contradiction between the efficiency and transparency of ST-PSCs.

In situ study of electrochemical migration of Sn3Ag0.5Cu solder reinforced by Cu6Sn5 nanoparticles

Ziwen Lv, Jintao Wang, Fengyi Wang, Weiwei Zhang, Jianqiang Wang, Fuquan Li, Hongtao Chen

Summary: The increase in packaging and power density has resulted in a higher electric field strength between solder joints and increased potential for failure due to electrochemical migration. To enhance the anti-electrochemical migration ability of SAC305 solder, Cu6Sn5 nanoparticles (NPs) were added to the paste and their mechanism for inhibiting ECM was studied. Cu6Sn5 NPs were prepared through ultrasound-assisted chemical reduction and composite solder pastes were prepared by mechanically mixing them with SAC305. In situ observation showed that adding 0.6 wt% Cu6Sn5 NPs effectively inhibited ECM by prolonging the incubation period, but exceeding this amount led to accelerated failure. Furthermore, Cu6Sn5 NPs increased the threshold for instantaneous failure under high voltage.

A Short Review of Through-Silicon via (TSV) Interconnects: Metrology and Analysis

Jintao Wang, Fangcheng Duan, Ziwen Lv, Si Chen, Xiaofeng Yang, Hongtao Chen, Jiahao Liu

Summary: This review focuses on the measurement methods used to evaluate the geometry and electrical properties of through-silicon vias (TSVs) and examines the reliability issues associated with TSVs in 3D integrated circuits (ICs). Non-destructive measurement techniques for TSV contours and copper fillings have been researched, including high-frequency signal analysis methods and thermal detection methods. The reliability risks of TSVs arise from various factors such as copper contamination, thermal fields in 3D-ICs, stress fields, noise coupling, and interactions between multiple physical fields. Designing reliable 3D-ICs with TSVs requires electrical characterization of copper contamination, assessment of stress distribution using micro-Raman spectroscopy and finite element simulations, and the proposal of shield insertion to mitigate cross-coupling effects.
