Summary: In this study, the effects of dietary supplementation of Aspergillus-meal prebiotic on the growth performance, health status, and intestinal microbiota of Asian seabass were evaluated. It was found that the addition of 0.3% Aspergillus-meal prebiotic significantly improved the survival rate and immune responses of the fish. Furthermore, the expression of heat shock cognate 70 kDa protein (hsp70) in the liver of the fish was significantly increased. Overall, dietary supplementation of 0.3% Aspergillus-meal prebiotic had positive effects on the immune health of Asian seabass.

Summary: This study identified the chromosome locations of leaf rust resistance genes in the hard red spring wheat cultivar AC Taber, with significant QTL effects for resistance found on chromosomes 2BS and 3BS. The genes on these chromosomes were found to be associated with adult plant resistance genes Lr13 and Lr74. Newly developed KASP PCR markers linked to these regions can be used for marker-based selection of these resistance genes.

Summary: The study evaluated the use of chitosan microparticles to protect a recombinant peptide, CATH-FLA, from gastric degradation in order to prevent and treat infectious diseases in aquaculture. The results showed that the microparticles effectively protected the peptide and improved the immune response of rainbow trout.

Summary: In this study, the potential immunostimulatory effects of mangosteen peel extract on Macrobrachium rosenbergii were investigated. The results showed that the administration of mangosteen peel extract significantly increased total haemocyte count, differential haemocyte count, phenoloxidase activity, respiratory bursts, as well as phagocytic activity and clearance efficiency against Lactococcus garvieae. These findings suggest that mangosteen peel extract can be utilized as an immunostimulant for prawns through dietary administration, enhancing immune responses and resistance against pathogens by modulating carbohydrate metabolism.

Summary: Investigating the genetic structure of resistance in sorghum and maize to Exserohilum turcicum is important for management options in both crops. Two sorghum recombinant inbred line (RIL) populations were evaluated for resistance and six quantitative trait loci (QTL) were identified. Comparisons with candidate genes for northern corn leaf blight revealed candidate resistance genes associated with sorghum leaf blight.
