Outcome of Radical Surgery for Simultaneous Liver and Lung Metastases Synchronous with Primary Colorectal Cancer

Franz Xaver Singhartinger, Martin Varga, Tarkan Jager, Adam Dinnewitzer, Oliver Koch, Burkhard H. A. von Rahden, Jorg Hutter, Klaus Emmanuel

Summary: Colorectal cancer (CRC) often leads to metastatic disease in approximately 30% of patients. This study retrospectively analyzed CRC patients with simultaneous liver and lung metastasis undergoing resection with curative intent, showing that patients seemed to benefit from the surgery with tendency to prolonged OS and acceptable complication rate, although tumor recurrence occurred in all cases. Repeated resection of recurrent metastases led to further prolonged OS in some cases.

Incidence and risk factors for umbilical incisional hernia after reduced port colorectal surgery (SIL+1 additional port)-is an umbilical midline approach really a problem?

Peter Tschann, Daniel Lechner, Paolo N. C. Girotti, Stephanie Adler, Stephanie Rauch, Jaroslav Presl, Tarkan Jager, Philipp Schredl, Christof Mittermair, Philipp Szeverinski, Patrick Clemens, Helmut G. Weiss, Klaus Emmanuel, Ingmar Koenigsrainer

Summary: This study evaluated the incidence and risk factors for incisional hernia after reduced port colorectal surgery. The results showed that obesity and pre-existing umbilical hernia were significant risk factors for incisional hernia. Reduced port colorectal surgery using an umbilical single port access was demonstrated to be feasible and safe, with a low rate of incisional hernia.
