Summary: Chronic kidney disease may affect the expression and function of membrane carriers and transporters, leading to impaired drug elimination and clinical consequences. Understanding the function of these proteins is crucial for characterizing drug pharmacokinetics, drug actions in the kidney, and defining organ pathophysiology.

Summary: PET studies with [F-18]atorvastatin in preclinical models revealed faster uptake and clearance in female rats compared to males, potentially due to higher efficiency in exchange between arterial blood and hepatic tissue.

Summary: We developed a deep learning-based method, AMAP, for the segmentation and quantitative analysis of foot processes in kidney images. AMAP accurately assessed the morphological features of podocyte foot processes and showed differences in various kidney diseases. The findings suggest that AMAP could be used as a supplemental tool for personalized diagnosis and treatment of kidney disease.

Summary: The complement system is important in clearing pathogens and cell debris, but it also plays a key role in pathways leading to allograft injury. New biomarkers are being sought to assess complement activation and guide tailored therapies after kidney transplantation. C5 blockade has had success in managing complement-driven diseases and new drugs targeting the complement amplification loop show promise in treating and preventing recurrence of certain kidney diseases.

Summary: In this study, the effects of oral atorvastatin on prostaglandin production in allergic rhinitis were investigated. The results demonstrated that atorvastatin could alleviate nasal symptoms, inhibit inflammatory cell infiltration, reduce mucus secretion, and downregulate the expression of inflammatory mediator PGD2 by blocking the RAS/ERK/NF-kappa B signaling pathway. These findings provide potential applications of atorvastatin in the treatment of allergic rhinitis.

Summary: Atorvastatin has a positive effect on bisphosphonate-induced osteonecrosis of the jaw in rats. It improves mucosal healing, increases viable osteocytes, reduces cell apoptosis, and decreases bone sequestration. It also modulates inflammation and improves bone vitality, metabolism, and structure.

Summary: With the rise of the COVID-19 pandemic, distance learning using information and digital communication technologies has been widely adopted in medical education, including pathology. Machine learning algorithms are developed to recognize histological patterns in kidney biopsy slides, providing support for building computational models for accurately identifying renal pathologies.

Summary: Digital pathology technology allows for automatic detection of glomeruli and selection of cortical regions of interest in kidney allograft biopsy specimens. The automatic fibrosis quantification was moderately correlated with pathologists' assessment, but not significantly associated with eGFR or allograft survival. This pipeline provides a promising method for developing and applying image analysis algorithms in kidney pathology.

Summary: The study assessed the potential protective effects of Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) alone or in combination with N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) or atorvastatin against contrast-induced nephropathy in diabetic rats. The results showed that the combined use of CoQ10 with atorvastatin had a regenerative effect on distal tubules with mild kidney histology alterations in diabetic rats with contrast-induced nephropathy.

Summary: Recent studies indicate that kidney pathology can impact membrane transporters not only in the kidney, but also in the gastrointestinal tract and liver. Alterations in drug transporter function in liver and intestines of kidney failure patients may affect drug metabolism and local drug effects.

Summary: The study investigated the correlation between clinical indexes and pathological classifications in 202 patients with lupus nephritis (LN). The results showed differences in clinical indexes among different pathological types, with cystatin C sensitivity being significantly higher in detecting early renal function damage. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed strong correlations between some clinical indexes and pathological classifications.
