Prevalence of survey-based criteria for fibromyalgia and impact on hospital burden: a 7 year follow-up study from an outpatient clinic

P. R. Lage-Hansen, S. Chrysidis, K. Amris, S. Fredslund-Andersen, R. Christensen, T. Ellingsen

Summary: This study evaluated the prevalence of survey-based fibromyalgia (FM) criteria among newly referred patients in a rheumatic outpatient clinic, and compared the use of healthcare services between survey-based FM and non-FM cases. The study found that FM cases were more likely to be women and received more medications and public economic support. FM cases also had a higher number of hospital courses and had undergone more invasive procedures compared to non-FM cases. Consultations with various specialists were also more frequent for FM cases.

COVID-19 Does Not Lead to an Increase in Corticosteroid Prescriptions in IBD Patients: A Nationwide Cohort Study

Bente Mertz Norgard, Floor Dijkstra Zegers, Jan Nielsen, Torben Knudsen, Jens Kjeldsen

Summary: This study examined the association between COVID-19 infection and corticosteroid prescriptions in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). The results showed that COVID-19 infection did not result in a higher rate of corticosteroid prescriptions, which is reassuring for patients with IBD.

Mortality in patients with incident rheumatoid arthritis and depression: a Danish cohort study of 11 071 patients and 55 355 comparators

Jens K. Pedersen, Lei Wang, Nickolaj Risbo, Alma B. Pedersen, Kjeld Andersen, Torkell Ellingsen

Summary: This study investigated the association between depression and mortality in patients with incident rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The results showed that depression was associated with a higher risk of death in RA patients, especially in those younger than 55 years old. Furthermore, the study found that the mortality risk in depressed patients with RA was similar to that in comparators without RA.

Effectiveness of patient education as a stand-alone intervention for patients with chronic widespread pain and fibromyalgia: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized trials

P. H. Duhn, E. E. Waehrens, M. B. Pedersen, S. M. Nielsen, H. Locht, H. Bliddal, R. Christensen, K. Amris

Summary: This systematic review evaluates the benefits and potential harms of patient education as a stand-alone intervention for individuals with chronic widespread pain and fibromyalgia. The results show that patient education as a stand-alone intervention can improve patients' global assessment. However, no significant differences were found in terms of functioning, pain level, emotional distress, and pain cognition when comparing patient education with usual care, no intervention, or waiting list.

Outcome reporting in randomized trials in gout: A systematic scoping review from the OMERACT gout working group assessing the uptake of the core outcome set

Melanie B. Morillon, Alexander Norup, Jasvinder A. Singh, Nicola Dalbeth, William J. Taylor, Martin A. Kennedy, Birthe Mette Pedersen, Rebecca Grainger, Peter Tugwell, Fernando Perez-Ruiz, Cesar Diaz-Torne, N. Lawrence Edwards, Beverley Shea, Torkell J. Ellingsen, Robin Christensen, Lisa K. Stamp

Summary: This study aimed to assess the adherence of gout clinical trials to the core outcome domains endorsed by OMERACT in 2009 and evaluate the reporting before and after the endorsement. The results showed that only a small percentage of acute trials (8%) and no chronic trials reported all the core domains. Therefore, there is a need for continuous encouragement and further guidance on outcome measurement reporting among gout researchers.

The genomic landscape of reference genomes of cultivated human gut bacteria

Xiaoqian Lin, Tongyuan Hu, Jianwei Chen, Hewei Liang, Jianwei Zhou, Zhinan Wu, Chen Ye, Xin Jin, Xun Xu, Wenwei Zhang, Xiaohuan Jing, Tao Yang, Jian Wang, Huanming Yang, Karsten Kristiansen, Liang Xiao, Yuanqiang Zou

Summary: The authors present an expanded version of the Cultivated Genome Reference (CGR), termed CGR2, which includes 3324 high-quality draft genomes based on gut bacterial isolates from Chinese individuals. They classify 527 species from 8 phyla, including 179 previously unidentified species, and provide information on secondary metabolite biosynthetic gene clusters and gut phage-bacteria interactions.
