The utilization of MRI before prostate biopsy has shown a steady increase from 2008 to 2015, with significant disparities observed based on race and region.
OBJECTIVE. The potential for significant disparities exists in the setting of increased adoption of prostate MRI. We sought to assess temporal trends in the utilization of MRI before prostate biopsy in a nationally representative sample. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Using the SEER-Medicare linked database, we identified men undergoing prostate biopsy who had an MRI within 6 months of diagnosis of prostate cancer. Men were stratified according to whether they were biopsy naive or had undergone a prior negative prostate biopsy. RESULTS. We identified 82,483 men undergoing prostate biopsy in SEER-Medicare from 2008 to 2015 of whom 78,253 were biopsy naive and 4230 had a known prior negative biopsy. We found that the percentage of patients who received an MRI before biopsy has increased from 2008 to 2015 in biopsy-naive men (0.5-8.2%; p <.001), men with a prior negative biopsy (1.4-25.5%; p <.001), and overall (0.5-9.2%; p <.001). On multivariable modeling, the odds ratio (OR) of a patient undergoing an MRI before biopsy for Black men (OR, 0.4; 95% CI, 0.3-0.5; p <.001) was half that of White men, and the OR of MRI before biopsy in men from the Northeast (OR, 3.4; 95% CI, 2.8-4.3; p <.001) was more than three times that of men from the West. CONCLUSION. The steady overall increase in the utilization of MRI before prostate biopsy since 2008 has been associated with significant racial and regional disparities in utilization.

Expansion of the composition library for chemodiversity of hardwood extractives at molecular level by ultrahigh-resolution mass spectrometry

Summary: This study developed a detailed analytical methodology to enhance the characterization of wood extractives at a molecular level. By selecting compatible solvent, evaluating ionization solvent, and using multi-dimensional data analysis, the complex compositions in wood extractives were comprehensively characterized. The extraction capability of seven solvents with varied polarities was examined and evaluated based on a large number of compounds. Various data-processing approaches were used to explore the chemodiversity of the extractives from different perspectives. This work greatly expanded the compound library of wood extractives and could guide the analysis of other biomass materials.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the aberrant expression of 32 rhythm genes in breast cancer and found that NFIL3 promotes the proliferation and metastasis of TNBC cells. NFIL3 suppresses NFKBIA transcription, enhancing NF-kappa B signaling-mediated cancer-associated inflammation, and thereby promoting TNBC progression.

Summary: This paper presents a K-band CMOS broadband low noise amplifier (LNA) based on the magnetically coupled resonator (MCR) matching network technique. The LNA consists of two common-source pseudo-differential stages, which use capacitive neutralization technique to enhance the inversion isolation and gain. The MCR-based input matching network achieves good balance and loss performance, improving the linearity and Noise Figure (NF) of the LNA.

Analysis of interface mechanical properties between geotextiles and tailings during pull-out tests

Changbo Du, Dongze Li, Fu Yi, Laigui Wang, Ben Niu

Summary: This paper proposes a trilinear softening model for geotextile-reinforced tailings, which provides accurate numerical solutions through dimensionalization and finite difference methods. New interaction terms are introduced to analyze the interface characteristics, and a method is proposed for estimating the interface stiffness. The accuracy of the model is verified through comparison with experimental results.

Summary: This study aims to systematically evaluate and describe the impact of telemedicine interventions on essential hypertension. The study will include randomized controlled trials and assess primary outcomes (systolic and diastolic blood pressure) as well as secondary outcomes (medication adherence, quality of life, blood pressure control rate, and adverse events). The findings will be published in peer-reviewed journals through meta-analysis.

Summary: Pterostilbene (PTS) has received attention due to its health benefits, but its poor solubility limits its use in the food industry. This study prepared protein conjugates of PTS using whey protein isolate, soybean protein isolate, and flaxseed protein isolate, which improved its solubility and stability. The protein-based nano-complexes showed good stability and have potential applications in functional foods.

Multi-modal machine learning based on electrocardiogram data for prediction of patients with ischemic heart disease

Yi You, Wei Wang, Dongze Li, Yu Jia, Dong Li, Rui Zeng, Lei Zhang

Summary: Electrocardiogram is a non-invasive method for diagnosing cardiovascular diseases. Deep neural networks are being increasingly utilized in electrocardiogram analysis, exhibiting higher efficiency and accuracy compared to traditional machine learning methods. While exercise electrocardiogram is useful in diagnosing ischemic heart disease, there is still limited research on its long-term predictive value.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between plasma levels of IL-33, sST2, MPO, and MMP-9 and all-cause mortality in patients with AAD. The results showed that sST2, MPO, and MMP-9 were independently associated with mortality in patients with AAD, suggesting a pathogenic role for the IL-33/ST2/neutrophil granzyme system in these patients.

Highly Dispersed Pt Catalysts on Hierarchically Mesoporous Organosilica@Silica Nanoparticles with a Core-Shell Structure for Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrogenation

Enhua Wang, Yidong Song, Jinlin Mei, Aocheng Wang, Dongze Li, Shanbin Gao, Lili Jin, Hui Shang, Aijun Duan, Xilong Wang

Summary: Hydrogenation of naphthalene can effectively reduce aromatic content in oil, and Pt-based aluminum-modified core-shell-structured nanoparticles showed excellent performance in this process. The synthesized Pt/Al-x-PMOs@MSNs catalysts exhibited preferable mass transfer and increased total acidity, leading to high conversion and selectivity of trans-decalin. The presence of sulfur had a temporary negative effect on naphthalene hydrogenation, but the catalysts ultimately recovered their original performance due to their unique texture and chemical properties.

Long- and very long-chain ceramides are predictors of acute kidney injury in patients with acute coronary syndrome: the PEACP study

Lianjing Liang, Dongze Li, Rui Zeng, Haihong Zhang, Lin Lv, Wei Wei, Zhi Wan

Summary: This study evaluated the relationship between plasma ceramide levels and acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). The study found that levels of certain ceramides were independently associated with AKI risk. These results suggest that long-chain and very-long-chain ceramide levels may help determine high AKI risk beyond traditional assessments.
