Summary: Communication through cell-cell contacts and extracellular vesicles allows immune cells to coordinate their responses against pathogens. The proteins and nucleic acids loaded into extracellular vesicles play a crucial role in this process. Acetylation, controlled by HDAC6, is a mechanism of cellular retention during protein sorting to exosomes. During infection, protein content of dendritic cells and their secreted extracellular vesicles change and become enriched in antiviral proteins. These extracellular vesicles can induce anti-pathogenic gene expression in recipient cells, leading to protection against subsequent viral infection.

Summary: In this study, the response of Listeria monocytogenes exposed to linalool was explored using iTRAQ-based quantitative proteomics analysis to uncover the mode of action and drug targets of linalool against LM. A total of 445 differentially expressed proteins were identified, with 31 significantly enriched gene ontology functional categories and 60 significantly enriched biological pathways. The analysis suggested that cell membranes, cell walls, nucleoids, and ribosomes might be the targets of linalool against LM.

Summary: I kappa B proteins play a crucial role in regulating the activation and inhibition of NF-kappa B transcription factor complexes. In this study, it was found that the absence of I kappa B-NS resulted in a transcriptional repression of immune responses, particularly in myeloid cells. Further investigation revealed that the blunted inflammatory response of monocytes in I kappa B-NS-deficient mice contributed to their resistance against Lm infection and reduced immunopathology.

Summary: Modeling the interactions of competing risks that affect the occurrence of various decrements is crucial in survival analysis and actuarial science. This study discusses the conversion between probabilities of decrement and absolute rates under a general form of a distribution of fractional ages, and proposes a novel numerical algorithm for its solution. Extensive numerical experiments verify that the algorithm provides reliable results in terms of efficiency and accuracy.

Summary: The study identified miR-34a-5p as a potential circulating biomarker for early-onset cardiotoxicity caused by DOX, with its expression altered before the onset of myocardial injury and correlated with cardiac expression. Administration of a cardioprotective drug attenuated miR-34a-5p expression in both plasma and heart, suggesting its potential as an early biomarker. Higher expression of miR-34a-5p in plasma and heart also indicated its potential as an early biomarker of delayed-onset cardiotoxicity.
