Summary: The study aimed to determine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on cardiac testing practices and volumes worldwide, showing recovery rates in high-income countries but stagnation in lower-income countries. Psychological stress among providers was found to affect patient care and recovery of cardiac testing.

Summary: Clinical trial enrollments decreased during the full year of the COVID-19 pandemic, with reductions primarily seen in cancer control and prevention trials. However, there was not strong evidence of enrollment reductions in treatment trials, indicating that clinical research quickly adapted to enrolling and treating patients on protocols during the pandemic.

Summary: This study explores the recovery experiences of COVID-19 patients in the US, particularly focusing on medically underserved populations. Findings show that patients experienced persistent health deficits in physical, cognitive, and psychological aspects, leading to financial suffering and loss of identity. Clinicians' emphasis on physical health hindered holistic recovery, while facilitators included strong support systems and personal agency in health maintenance. Coping mechanisms involved spirituality and gratitude.

Summary: Long-term immunity and functional recovery are observed in COVID-19 survivors, with high seroprevalence and stable total antibodies. However, decreased levels of specific antibodies and neutralization against variants pose a risk, especially for severe patients with lingering symptoms and organ involvement.

Summary: Rare functional variants may contribute to COVID-19 severity by accumulating weak effects throughout the exome. The omnigenic model suggests that association signals spread across the genome through gene regulatory networks. In this study, whole-exome sequencing revealed an excess of rare, high-impact variants in severe COVID-19 patients, particularly in genes associated with immune and respiratory diseases.

Summary: This pragmatic study aimed to describe the clinical follow-up and respiratory recovery trajectories of survivors of severe-to-critical COVID-19, as well as identify factors influencing their health-related quality of life. The results showed that although pulmonary function and radiological abnormalities improved up to 1 year post-acute COVID-19, a high percentage of severe-to-critical disease survivors had significant lung sequelae and residual symptoms, warranting prolonged follow-up.

Summary: This prospective cohort study evaluated the long-term clinical status of COVID-19 in recovered patients. The study found that one year after hospital discharge, patients continued to experience pulmonary and extrapulmonary dysfunction. Common symptoms reported included fatigue and sleep difficulties. Abnormal chest CT scans were found in the majority of patients, and kidney function declined persistently after discharge.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has had catastrophic impacts on the restaurant industry. This study examines the effects of COVID-19 on the US restaurant industry using data from Yelp and SafeGraph. The findings provide quantitative evidence of lost restaurant visitations and revenue during the pandemic, changes in customer origins, and the diminishing distance-decay effect on visitations. These findings are useful for policymakers in monitoring economic relief measures and designing targeted policies for economic recovery.
