Summary: While characterizing urban stormwater runoff as a major pathway of pollutant transport is important, the lack of access to online sensors and infrequent grab sampling has limited the assessment of storm runoff quality in many urban systems. This study investigates whether turbidity and total suspended solids can serve as surrogates for measuring total metals concentration in storm events in highly urbanized catchments, specifically in Tehran City. The study finds robust relationships between total suspended solids and metals concentrations, indicating that total suspended solids can explain variations in total metals concentration in this highly urbanized catchment.

Summary: Monitoring the levels of total suspended solids (TSS) and settleable solids (SetS) in wastewater is crucial for maintaining water quality parameters. Traditional reference methods for determining TSS and SetS are time-consuming and expensive. To address this issue, researchers developed SWAMVA, a new analytical instrument equipped with a machine vision-based automatic sampler and software for real-time digital movie capture. SWAMVA significantly reduced the analysis volume and time while providing accurate and precise results.

Summary: An in-depth understanding of particle size distribution and total suspended solids (TSS) in surface runoff is crucial for managing urban diffuse pollution. Field experiments and model simulation were used to explore the dynamic behavior of TSS and influencing factors, showing that higher TSS concentrations in surface runoff contained coarser particles washed off from road-deposited sediments. Factors such as rainfall characteristics, urban-rural gradients, surface roughness, and climate differences affect the contribution rate of RDS to TSS by altering particle size composition.

Summary: This study provides a comprehensive review of measurement methods for water quality parameters (WQPs), specifically total dissolved solids (TDS) and total suspended solids (TSS). Conventional methods have limitations in terms of cost, labor, and spatial coverage, while remote sensing (RS) has emerged as an alternative. RS applications using airborne and satellite sensors have shown promise in retrieving TDS and TSS measurements, but challenges such as atmospheric interference and optical properties need to be addressed. Incorporating RS and conventional approaches can effectively detect changes in WQPs and further research should focus on technological advancements for real-time monitoring.

Summary: This research aims to propose a quantification method for suspended solids in micromodel, mimicking reservoir damage and agglomeration caused by brine injection, utilizing visual image interpretation. The quantification process categorizes the quantified area into 3 main groups and explores segmentation and thresholding processes of visual data acquired from micromodel experiment, using image-based computational algorithm in MATLAB and ImageJ.

Summary: The importance of products made of elongated particles or fibers highlight the need for appropriate test procedures due to a lack of understanding the flow properties of fibrous bulk solids. A tensile tester was designed to meet the special needs in testing techniques for these bulk solids, and it was found that filling manner and height have the greatest influence on results. The developed load system can improve the repeatability of test results, and factors such as particle shape, size, roughness, and interparticle contact area were found to affect tensile strength.

Summary: This study analyzed the concentrations and genogroup distribution of FRNAPHs in the Orne River in France over a two-year period, as well as during four storm runoff events. It found that different driving factors affect FRNAPHs during low flows and storm runoff events, highlighting the importance of measuring at both time scales to better understand phage transport dynamics in surface water.

Summary: Accurate assessment of total suspended solids (TSS) is crucial for managing the health of aquatic ecosystems. A remote sensing based algorithm called the Wen algorithm has been developed and used to measure TSS concentration in the Raidak river. The study analyzed three consecutive years (2019, 2020, and 2021) and found that TSS concentration is highest during the monsoon months. The findings also highlight the correlation between sediment flux and rainfall, stream flow, cross-sectional area, and anthropogenic stress in the river.

Summary: Heterotrophic bacterial activity in biofloc systems leads to the accumulation of total suspended solids (TSS), which affects animal health and product quality. However, eliminating TSS causes a sudden change in microbial composition and nutrient concentration, promoting the growth of pathogenic bacteria. In this review, we propose novel management strategies to manipulate TSS levels by controlling heterotrophic and nitrifying bacterial activities. Hybrid activity between these bacteria can decrease bacterial intensity and carbon source supplement in biofloc systems.

Summary: Quantitative retrieval models of total suspended solids (TSS) concentrations based on Landsat and MODIS data were developed for Jiaozhou Bay. The reliability of the retrieved TSS concentrations was evaluated, and their temporal and spatial variations were analyzed. The main factors influencing the TSS concentration in Jiaozhou Bay were identified, with wind speed being the primary factor.

Summary: Lebanon, a country in the Middle East, is known for its rich water resources. However, poor water management has led to water pollution, with platinum being a major contaminant. This study, the first of its kind in Lebanon, investigated platinum levels in rivers, wastewater treatment plants, and sewage outfalls. The findings revealed high concentrations of platinum, surpassing international standards and aligning with previous studies in other countries. These preliminary results provide a foundation for future research.
