Summary: A nationwide prospective surveillance in China from 2009 to 2019 revealed that children under 5 and school-age children have the highest viral and bacterial positivity rates, with influenza virus being the most common viral pathogen and Streptococcus pneumoniae being the most common bacterial pathogen. This study emphasizes the importance of differential priorities for diagnosis, prevention, and control of acute respiratory tract infections based on patients' demographics, geographic locations, and seasonal variations in China.

Summary: This retrospective study analyzed the clinical characteristics of 347 patients with tracheobronchial tuberculosis (TBTB) in Chengdu between July 2017 and December 2021. The study found that adult females were more susceptible to TBTB, while gender differences were not observed in children. Children had a higher occurrence of irritant dry cough and fever, acute hematogenous disseminated pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB), and specific types of extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB), but a shorter interval before diagnosis and lower diagnostic yields compared to adults. Adults presented more extensive lung lesions and cavitations, while children exhibited more granulation hyperplasia, lymph fistula, and airway stenosis, but with less severity. These findings highlight important variations between adults and children with TBTB.

Summary: This study evaluated the in vitro activity of cefepime/taniborbactam and cefepime/zidebactam against aztreonam/avibactam-resistant E. coli strains. The results showed that cefepime/taniborbactam had a resistance rate of 100% against these strains, while cefepime/zidebactam was effective in all cases. This suggests that cefepime/zidebactam combination could be a promising therapeutic option.

Summary: A national-based prospective surveillance of acute diarrhea patients in China between 2009 and 2018 revealed that patients aged <5 years mainly had viral infections, while patients aged 18-45 years were more likely to be infected by bacteria. This study provides key insights into the distribution of enteropathogens in China and highlights the importance of identifying predominant diarrheal pathogens for clinical diagnosis and targeted prevention measures.

Summary: The impact of different ESBL genotypes of E. coli on the resistance to Cefepime (FEP) was investigated in this study. The results showed that ESBL-positive E. coli induces an increase in the MIC value of FEP, leading to an increase in FEP resistance. Additionally, the inoculation effect also causes a significant increase in the MPC value of FEP, indicating selective enrichment and amplification of drug-resistant mutants, resulting in clinical treatment failure.

Summary: The study investigated the molecular and clinical epidemiological features of human astrovirus infections in children under 5 with acute gastroenteritis in Shandong province, China. Results showed that HAstV infections were detected in all age groups, with main symptoms including fever, abdominal pain, vomiting, and dehydration, and the most prevalent genotype was HAstV-1.

Summary: The combination treatment of fosfomycin and amikacin can quickly reduce bacterial burden and prevent the emergence of resistant subpopulations against fosfomycin-heteroresistant strains, while monotherapy with either amikacin or fosfomycin may risk treatment failure.

Summary: This study assessed the antimicrobial resistance and molecular characteristics of E. coli ST1193 isolates causing neonatal bloodstream infections and meningitis in China, revealing that ST1193 isolates were often multidrug-resistant. Further multicenter studies are needed to control the spread of this emerging fluoroquinolone-resistant clone.

Summary: In this study, cefepime- and aztreonam-nonsusceptible H. influenzae strains were isolated and the molecular basis of their resistance to cefepime and aztreonam was investigated. Genetic variations associated with cefepime and aztreonam nonsusceptibility were identified and their effects on drug susceptibility were demonstrated.

Summary: The study investigated the etiology, prevalence, and related risk factors of ESBL in COUTIs in China, revealing that Escherichia coli is the most common pathogen and ESBL-producers are highly prevalent. Early prediction based on risk factors is crucial for appropriate empirical therapy against ESBL-producing pathogens.

Summary: This study investigated the molecular characteristics of Escherichia coli causing bloodstream infections in Huashan Hospital, Shanghai, China from 2010 to 2015. The results showed that E. coli strains isolated from BSI were still highly susceptible to carbapenems and beta-lactamase inhibitor combinations, with bla(CTX-M) being the dominant genotype of ESBLs. The low expression of bla(KPC) may be the reason for the lower resistance of E. coli to carbapenems.

Summary: The prevalence and molecular characteristics of tigecycline-resistant carbapenem-resistant Enterobacter cloacae (TCREC) in Southwest China were investigated. The study revealed that ST88 strains carrying the carbapenemase gene NDM-1 were the most common and exhibited resistance to tigecycline. Overexpression of efflux pumps contributed to tigecycline resistance. Effective supervision and management are crucial to prevent the transmission of TCREC isolates.
